Firefox browse speed vrs. IE browse speed

Recommended Posts

I am a new member to neowin and would like to see if any of you out there can help me figure this out. I have both Firefox and IE. When browsing with firefox I noticed that it was going extremely slow. It was like I was back in the dial up days. I have DSL internet and did a speed test with Firefox. Results: 1681 kbps download and 577 kbps upload. When tested with IE results: 1627 kbps download and 570 upload. My problem occurs when I'm browsing. Firefox took 59 seconds to load http://www.cnn.com where IE took only 11 seconds to load http://www.cnn.com. I've tried this on multiple website and Firefox is always slower. I am baffled. I have some add-ons to firefox such as: downthemall, flashget, flashgot, flashselection, and tabmix plus. I do not know of any changes I made or when firefox started performing slower. It was like one day it was fast and the next day it was slow. Let me know your thoughts on this neowin experts.

I do know the weather has been really bad last week, and there have been times browsing just drops off the cliff. But, this only seemed to happen when I was connected to the wirelessly and not when using wired via router. Try switching to the wire and see if anything changes. If it does, simply reset your modem and router to fix the problem.

I just figured it out: I ran firefox in safemode with no add-ons. After talking with the real: "warwagon" I found that the google toolbar was giving me a problem. After uninstalling the toolbar I checked my browse speeds and I was back up and running quickly. Does anyone have any idea why "google toolbar" would give me such a problem. I love that add on for the "autofill" let me know your thoughts and a big thanks to "the man" WARWAGON - the one and only

Firefox now browses normally without the google toolbar add on. Do you know why that add on would slow firefox down? I love that add on.
