I've not got a Mac yet, however, I was just wondering how people are getting which song they are currently playing on their desktop?

I know Dashboard doesn't let you place gadgets directly on the desktop constantly all the time, right?

So I'd like to know how you've all made it possible. It looks nice :)

Bowtie (free) and CoverSutra (?15) are two of the most popular options.

True, but if you have a big enough screen or multiple screens it shouldn't be a problem. I use a package tracking widget, and I put it on my far right display.

but you, sir, have 2 20" and one 30" cinema displays plus the 15" screen of your macbook so i would consider you an exeption. :p

Bowtie is very nice - much like coversutra in the sense that it sets on your desktop and shows all the info for that song. I like it for the customization that is out there - there are tons of skins already for it. Give it a shot

...or do it like microsoft did, simply make it addable to your regular desktop... would be nice for sticky notes or something which would be the only thing id use outside of dashboard.

I have a half-assed theme going on. I've had a quick look for icons that go with it but I've only found the odd ones.

Can anyone help suggest dock icons that'd accompany the colour scheme? :o
