#Michael
Just got my new panasonic 46" plasma 1080p tv. Absolutely outstanding by the way and I got a great deal on it...$1100 total. Now I need a spanking receiver and blu-ray system. Any ideas? Joel
I just picked up a Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K for cheap. It seems to be one of the best for the price at the moment, as H/K is having firmware issues with the AVR-254. I have also been looking at a Panasonic DMP-BD35 player. Brian M. Veteran Posted January 5, 2009 Veteran Share Posted January 5, 2009 I just picked up a Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K I really wish you could get those at a sensible price over here in the UK - it is an absolutely fantastic receiver - best you can get is a 1:1 $:? ratio:((. I've just picked up a Sony STR-DG820 (doesn't feature HDMI upscaling but my equipment outputs at 1080 anyway), which, for the price, is a cracking receiver. LightIdea
Personally I go for Yamaha. I know this website is australian, but this is the reciever I have, it's great. http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/products/avi...ers/RX-V563.asp Or get the Yamaha Z11 if you can afford it, hahaha  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/717098-got-a-new-hdtvneed-a-good-receiver-now/#findComment-590362628 Share on other sites
+Troll Subscriber¹ Posted January 7, 2009 Subscriber¹ Share Posted January 7, 2009 If you can afford it, I'm a big fan of the Onkyo TX-SR876 and TX-NR906 receivers due to the Reon video chip for 1080p upconversion. Oppo is releasing a Blu-Ray player soon which will (hopefully) blow most of the other players out of the water - http://oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83/ Should I assume you also need speakers as well with the new receiver? I recommend Hsu Research - http://www.hsuresearch.com/ - Very good quality speakers for around the same price or cheaper as a mid level Bose. Granted, all the items I posted are somewhat pricey, but I didn't see a price listed :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/717098-got-a-new-hdtvneed-a-good-receiver-now/#findComment-590375616 Share on other sites
+Fahim S. MVC Posted January 8, 2009 MVC Share Posted January 8, 2009 I have the Onkyo TX-SR876 and it is an amazing receiver. Onkyo have got some good prices this year in the UK because they aren't quite as good as some of the competition, namely from Yamaha. The Yamaha RX-V1900 is supposed to be steal. troGGers
I have an Onkyo TX-SR705 (now SR706) and love it. Not the Reon chip, but half the cost and I think the upconversion is still very good. The only problem with HK (currently) is that they're having really bad firmware issues.
