so this Windows Live Mail is software like outlook or thunderbird correct?

Yep, it's a software client like thunderbird. But because it's microsoft it links directly with hotmail (the web interface) so if you log into one the other will sync so you are always up-to-date. You can download it here.

Yes :) As someone else said you can download it from download.live.com. It also syncs to other email accounts as well as Hotmail (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, POP3 accounts, IMAP accounts, etc) as well as reads RSS feeds if you add them and syncs to the online Windows Live Calendar if you choose to use that feature. It is very good, especially in its integration with Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live People and other Windows Live services and software.

I think it's a webmail with tons of features which is extremely slow..

hotmail is extremely slow on me too I wish I could go back to old hotmail and it doesnt work with Opera!

No it isn't a webmail service. Windows Live Mail is software, Windows Live Hotmail is a webmail service. There is going to be another update to Windows Live Hotmail in either January or February which may help with a lot of your problems/complaints :)

It's already 70% faster than the older version so maybe it is the web browser you are using or your Internet connection? I have no problems with the latest Windows Live Hotmail update using Firefox.

First was Outlook 07.

But since upgrading WLM to Windows Live... etc, I've been stuck with WLM.

Nice interface and easy to use.

Havent' set up GMail, not sure if you can, but I use good ol' gmail notifier for FireFox.

It works very nicely with Gmail for those who wish to use Gmail and don't prefer the Windows Live integration ;)

Thunderbird (Y)

Lightning, Gmail & Hotmail support plus RSS feeds and more

Just like Windows Live Mail but with a better user interface and Windows Live integration ;) (ok, I'll stop now :p)

I use Windows Live Mail. It's not that horrible.

What do you mean "not that horrible"? How's it even horrible at all?

In your opinion that is :p

I use Thunderbird on OS X & Linux as well. Can't do that with Win Live Mail :p

Besides, I like my apps to look minimal as possible..

Not ugly and glossy with that bloated look :p

Microsoft Outlook 2007. I use my personal computer for organizing things work related, and I like having my mail, calendar, contacts, and a to-do list all in one application.

That's good to hear! I like the same thing, especially receiving my emails straight away, like with Windows Live Mail (that's how I reply to people on here so quickly :p).

I was just wondering, CoMMo, if you use Windows Live Hotmail or Windows Live Messenger much? If so, you may benefit from using Windows Live Mail instead of Outlook as I'm pretty sure it does the same and more and you also get the integration with your Windows Live contact list and Windows Live Calendar (which you can edit online as well as on your computer and you can add people to the contact list who don't use Windows Live) :)

Hello,

I use Qualcomm's now-sadly-discontinued Eudora mail client. The program has excellent rule (filter) creations capabilities and the search indexing works quite well, too.

Penelope is an open source project designed to provide Eudora-like experience on top of Mozilla Thunderbird, which is slowly moving forward with beta releases.

I actually want to "avoid" integrating it with my Windows Live contacts. I got Messenger way back in middle school when it was still MSN Messenger because it's what everybody used, and since then have accrued roughly 200 contacts, half of which I don't remember, lol. I don't want to make a whole new ID because this one is tied to my XBox Live and things, and I don't really have the time right now to sit down and pick through all of my contacts and get rid of the erroneous ones, lol.

    • I agree, especially if it is cloud sourced, like this one is.. but I wouldn't say no to a local AI assistant similar to the Zettlab one which would be really helpful with my large Photos library, but also to perform tasks like installing Docker apps rather than me having to do it via Docker Compose, but I don't think we're quite there yet. Synology Photos is somewhat AI, you can ask it to search for certain people (if you have tagged them and it will attempt to match similar photos to the person) and if you put a search term in for "cars" for example, it will show you all photos with a car.
    • I doubt that Google will keep the same price... it may go up from that list published.
