Post here if you got the Unibody MacBook

Recommended Posts

I just picked one up today...wow...compared to my white macbook I been using this seems like such a higher end product...the chasis is bar none the best I have seen, period.

The unibody is like sex in the mouth there is literally no way to explain it. I have never been a macbook pro user, always ibook, macbook, imac and this just seems like a very high end product, I've been using it for about 2 hours and just wow. Love it.

I really want to trade my 1st gen MacBook for this. Looks fantastic. I wonder how I much I can get for it.

i just sold mine on ebay for ?535, which i thought was much more than it was worth. this was after i picked up my top spec macbook for ?920 off ebay.... so ?400 for a newer, better macbook was a good deal for me.

do it.

After a few hours I just want to say wow again.

I haven't been this excited, impressed and fascinated in a piece of hardware in a long time.

For an entry level notebook, this not only met my expectations but blew them away :D

what macbook did u get? I am so tempted to get a macbook pro and sell my 2.0GHz unibody macbook to buy it

For my first venture into Apple products (other than my iphone), all I can say is whoa, amazing!

I bought the 2.4Ghz MacBook Pro with AppleCare a few weeks after launch.

Had a few problems with the original laptop i received but top notch customer service in fixing it made up for it. :)

Very happy with it, sold my desktop windows pc now :)

Like I mentioned its the entry level unibody, 2GHz/9400m etc... same as yours by the looks I'm assuming. But for me it was a substantial upgrade from a G1 white MacBook. Mainly the ability to run 4GB of RAM, 64bit CPU and the 9400m doesn't hurt especially compared to Intel GMA 950 as I like the option to do some light gaming on the go. Also i like the 13" form factor, I have a 15.4" Toshiba and I find it too bulky after having toted around a 13" for awhile.

I just wish I had the backlit kb ;) and the higher quality screen and bigger resolution - thats why I might get the MacBook Pro
Same here lol, I don't really care about more performance, my MacBook do everything I need on that field.

I bought one when the announced the latest iLife/iWork (not because of it, just coincidence...luckily my credit card was declined the first time, because if it wasn't, I wouldn't have got a cheap iLife). It's been the best laptop I've ever owned, and this is from a Windows user. Got the 2.4GHz upgraded to 4GB of RAM and an upgraded HDD.

EDIT: And the backlit keyboard is awesome.

For $500 you get 400MHz, 90GB HDD and Backlit Keyboard.......

To me it's a ripoff...

When you look at how much you get moving from the 2.4GHz MB to the 2.4GHz MBP and what you get, it's twice more than the 2.0GHz MB to the 2.4GHz model.

Then what about the standard polycarbonate shell macbook? Should I get that one instead? It's even cheaper only $1500.

Or should I go for the aluminium one?

MacBook 2.0 PCB $1650

+ .13in Slimmer, .5 Pound lighter, stronger Uni-Body Aluminum case (And WAY sexier?)

+ Glass LED display (Well, it's better quality and way more durable, but some will say that reflects make it worst, still, you can buy anti-glare protectors)

+ DDR3 1066MHz conversion from DDR2 667MHz for better performance on tasks and GPU performance (the vRAM is shared)

+ 40GB HDD

+ Glass UniButton Multitouch Trackpad

+ 30Min Theoretical battery life

- Firewire 400 - There is no FW on the ALU MacBooks, this can be a deal breaker for some

-----------------------

MacBook 2.0 ALU $2100 (That's +$450)

+ 400MHz CPU

+ 90GB HDD

+ Backlit Keyboard

------------------------

MacBook 2.4 $2550 (That's +$450)

+ 2" Screen with higher Res

+ WAY better screen quality

+ 256MB GeForce 9600GT Dedicated

------------------------

MacBook Pro 2.4 $3200 (+$650)

As you can see, you get A LOT for your $450 when getting the ALU 2.0GHz, but as I said, you get almost nothing for the same $450 more when selecting the 2.4GHz MB.

(Price taken from Aus. Store)

Well we have decided to get the MB 2.0 ALU.

Next up... Configuration, haha.

The only thing is should I just stick to 2GB or should I get the 4GB one?

We aren't doing anything heavy on the laptop, occasional photo viewing, music, web surfing, email, IM.

I'm doing all this on 2GB and it's very smooth. (well, 1792MB since there 256 Shared)

I'm planning getting 4GB someday, but it's because running a virtual Windows, or having multiple tasks open don't get it full potential.

wow... AIIe... Better say it's your first Apple experience alone lol :p

I was -3 yrs old when this thing got out.

I'm sure you will love it, for me it's my first Mac and I love it and make numerous jealous at college... :p

    • Surprise! We still can't get it right. With the current state of AI, the crappy software, the huge mega-corporations that back all of these idiot things, I think we are a very long way away from SAE Level 5. I, for one, will never get in one.
    • Nice. September/October GA?! I'll keep following it, but won't install any preview or beta versions.
    • Wow, that could have been dangerous, certainly not ready for these things. They have to be 100% or pretty well close to it. Not that I will see one i doubt, never mind ride in one, they may have them in London, but I doubt they will come to where I live.
    • Nothing kills CMF Phone 2 Pro's successor due to rising memory prices by Hamid Ganji Storage and RAM prices have been rising over the past year, leading to a significant increase in the cost of electronics for customers around the world. Many companies are now revising their plans for upcoming devices due to higher component costs and overall production expenses. CMF is the latest company to cancel the successor to one of its best-selling phones due to rising memory prices. CMF is a sub-brand of Nothing and focuses on making budget smartphones for growing markets. The brand launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro last year with some eye-catching specifications and an affordable price. While many customers may have been waiting for a successor this year, one of the company’s executives has announced that CMF will not release a new smartphone this year. And AI is to blame. As Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis announced on X, the company has been working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with current memory prices, it cannot “build a phone that feels like a genuine step forward at a price that makes sense for CMF.” So, no new CMF phone will be launched this year. Meanwhile, Evangelidis said the company still has several new products in the pipeline, including some in entirely new categories. He added that the Nothing brand will also continue launching new products through 2026. Budget smartphones are among the first victims of the surge in RAM and memory prices, as they have become more expensive to build. The sharp increase in memory costs could also reshape the traditional price ranges associated with budget phones. Apple CEO Tim Cook also recently said that price increases for some of the company’s products are unavoidable because RAM and memory have become significantly more expensive this year. Analysts estimate that the base price of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could rise to $1,399 due to current market shortages.
