It wont let me install my vid card drivers. Using firefox, it downloads them, but the exe doesnt show up on desktop (yes thats where I have it set to save to). When I use IE and select run, it downloads the driver, but then nothing happens. Any idea what to do?

try windows 7 beta maybe ? everybody else seems to be

If you are sure that's where you saved the file to you can try running the file via command line if refreshing the desktop did not make the file appear.

agreed, but to be honest it sounds more or less like a PEBKAC. Probably you are saving to the desktop of the wrong user account or something like that.

but even when I chose run instead of save using IE, it downloads and then nothing happens...

Hmm... try saving it to a folder outside of your user profile such as the root drive or something, then attempt running it from there.

Oh, and have you tried downloading anything other than that particular file?

Have you tried downloading to your "documents" folder? Right click --> save as...

Also, like someone else already asked, do other files download correctly?

FireFox should ask you to open or save the file, but when you go to the NVIDIA site to download a driver, you'll see this: "Thank you. Your driver download will begin shortly. If the download does not start in several seconds, click here. " Right click on "click here" and choose "save as..." this will popup a standard window which allow you to save a file to the root (C:\) or your "documents" folder for example.

I'd say download to your "documents" folders, cause it was my understanding that you are not allowed to download files to your root when you have UAC turned on? (Could be mistaken).

8800 gts drivers from nvidia.com and I have no idea how to save to a root drive...

Root drive is just a fancy way of saying "Saving to the drive where your operating system is located on."

As windows vista and XP defaulted to the C: drive when installing, I'd give hunting and pecking around your C: drive with the search tool a shot. If you can't find it, change the download location to a folder you make on your C: drive like C:\Firefox Downloads\ and point Firefox to download things there.

I was able to dl and its installing them now with no problem. Once thats done, ill try the right click save to function and see if i can save to the documents folder.

You can change where Firefox downloads to in the Tools - Options section.

Geez!! After the update installed, I couldnt connect to the internet. Just spent all this time on phone with microsoft trying to fix it. Ended up having to do a system restore to fix it. Havent tried to dl the drivers yet, ill let ya know what happens.

Anyone have any ideas? I cant figure this out. Ive tried saving to several locations, but file never shows up. If I choose run instead of save, the file dls and then gives me the run promt. When I hit run, it just dissapears and nothing happens.

Grr it was stupid AVG causing the problems. Apparently Im not the only one, i googled it and found out it was the prob, so anyone, if ya upgrade to vista, make sure you take AVG off your comp before the install. You can reinstall AVG after the upgrade with no problems.

in my experience doing a clean install of vista, instead of upgraded, always turns out the best results. you just have to download new drivers for ur sound card, wireless card, and graphics cards on another pc and move them over. (you cant get wireless internet without drivers for ur card)

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
