Ubuntu USB run out of space

Recommended Posts

I've got annoying problem.

Because my hdd broke down I have to use USB with linux on it, I installed it, everything's fine until I run out of space on USB drive, after that Ubuntu will no longer want to boot - so I cannot even access it to remove some files

Anyone got idea how to run it despite lack of free space ?

 annoying

well I can but it does not save anything, I am writing from Ubuntu LiveCD now but all setting will gone after reboot

USB is 1GB: minimum advised

Ubuntu USB was created with built-in app in LiveCD in Ubuntu

it was working fine till it run out of space

I cannot delete anything out of it as drive image is in 1 file

if only I could boot it but it doesn't let me

You can delete files from inside the installation image, you just have to mount that image using the loopback driver.

This site explains how to do that:

What seems to be a good solution for your case is a Live CD like Knoppix. With Knoppix you can create a persistent home directory and save all your files and configurations there. The next time you boot from the CD it will detect your home and load your configurations. And it doesn't need to install anything from the OS, runs from CD,so the USB device space is exclusively used for saving your data.
