I have some problems connecting Apple Mail and Hotmail.

I've downloaded and installed the HTTPMail Plug-in, and created an account with all the correct information and settings.

However, I can't seem to access my inbox. I click retrieve mail, but it still leaves my inbox empty, when I actually have 4 new messages.

Any idea why this is happening?

Btw, I am running Leopard v10.5.5 on a MacBookPro

Thank you~

I would guess that it has something to do with the fact that HTTPMail hasn't been updated in nearly 7 years. I'm sure a lot of things have changed in that time.

Would you recommend any alternate solution for using Apple Mail and Hotmail together?

Thank you for the heads-up though.

I didn't realise that anyone still used Hotmail :p

Microsoft has not offered a way to use Hotmail with anything other than a browser in years.

Actually, Windows Live Mail (now part of the Windows Live Essentials package) allows you to access your Windows Live Mail account via the program.

Hi,

The problem is that there are two http plugins for mail, the one that is still being actively developed is under this link: http://www.automagic-software.com/downloads.php

just make sure you select the appropriate file. Sometimes system updates break it (like going from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6) but there is an update within a few days of that.

Let me know how it goes.

httpmail 1.53 works perfectly here in Leopard.

There are two httpmail by the way on the web. A really insanely old version, and another one that's fairly new.

This is it : http://www.automagic-software.com/products.php

Free and all. Good for everybody here :)

I downloaded that exact file (Leopard) from the exact website! And I installed it, but no luck!

Hmmm, I'm taking a wild guess here :

Do a right click on Mail.app and More Informations. Uncheck "open with Rosetta" if it's checked. Or reboot. Or do both. Or reinstall the file. Or do both.

Back in the time, it was 1.40 and I had a hard time installing it, but now it works fine.

Oh and mind yourself that the icon in the prefpane is not showing directly.

You have to click on the arrow at the right of the prefpane and HTTPMail will show.

I had a picture, but for an unknown reason it won't appear in the forums :-\

Just FYI, pop access (for all, without having to get Hotmail Plus for the 20 or 30 bucks a year) is coming, for free, to Windows Live Hotmail....they've just not said when, exactly. At that point, you'll have an easier time using Mail.app and Hotmail. What we have right now is definitely not ideal.

Solution:

Forward all your hotmail emails to an free email in google. Then link your google email to your Apple Mail. IMAP that ***ch too. (I just hope hotmail allows you to forward, if not, how pathetic).

Let me know how it goes!

They took the pathetic option...

Auto Forward is enabled for MSFT domains like live, msn, hotmail, etc...

No luck...

Even that isn't ideal. Do you know that even if you pay for it you still don't get IMAP, when Gmail offers it for free? :/

Ohhh, POP coming to Hotmail? I mean, I should say finally, but I'll still be happy for now. Things are going to be really easy then.

If httpmail doesn't work for you guys, contact the developer. He's very concerned about his application and I'm pretty sure he will answer and give you a solution.

I got rid of MacFreePops and now using the pop setting in mail it works perfectly for my @live.com and @hotmail.com accounts. Just make sure the incoming pop server is 'pop3.live.com' and the outgoing is 'smtp.live.com'. More info on this blog which explains all the settings you need

Wow. I guess I lucked out and did it before they changed it because all my hotmail is forwarded to gmail. I couldn't believe they enabled forwarding to begin with as is was only reason that kept me logging into hotmail.

I guess they saw how many of us fled to greener pastures and limited forwarding to their domains. Pop3 Wave 3 rollout should be complete soon so that might be your best bet.
