I need to assing an specific mac address / pc to an specific IP so that everytime that they boot they recieve the same ip for example home PC to 192.168.0.101 laptop to 192.168.0.102 iphone to 192.168.0.103 The reason is beacause in my actual configuration, everytime that i restart one of that devices they get a random IP and i need to re setup the port forwarding every day and i am a bit tired of doing that. MagicMan Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 I havent used a Dlink router for years but with most other home routers, the setting you are looking for is usually on the same page that you configure DHCP from. I do have to ask though, why not just assign the devices with static IP's? MagicMan Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 It depends on the Operating System but for Windows XP Go into Control Panel (Classic View) Open Network Connections (Category View) Select Network and Internet Connections, and then Network Connections. Double-click on the active "Local Area Connection" Click Properties In the General Tab, highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" then click on the properties tab In the General tab, click Use the following IP address, and enter: - IP address. The static IP address you want to assign to this computer. (192.168.0.x) - Subnet mask. Subnet mask used by your router. (255.255.255.0) - Default gateway. IP address of your router - Preferred DNS Server. IP Address of your router Click OK to close each window That should be it. Each time you restart the machine(s) they will keep the same statically assigned IP address. Sorry but i have no idea how to set up the IPhone to achieve the same result. Maybe somebody else can help with that. Aldur82 Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 What you're looking for on your router configuration is something along the lines of 'Address Reservation'. It'll ask you what IP address you want to assign, and will have a place to put the relevant MAC address in. Most router have a way of showing what devices are currently connected. You'll get the MAC address from there. After that, it's simply a matter of putting in the right MAC address with the right IP address. DreadBoat89 Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 i know for my dlink, to assign a ip address to a computer i must - open the router configuration page - in the "setup" tab/page click on "network settings" on the left-hand column - scroll all the way to the bottom and click "DHCP Reservations List" - find my computer listed there and click enable - save configuration ------ don't manually assign ip addresses thru the operating system, especially when your laptop is constantly on the go and connects to other networks.
