aniv's i7 build + Second i7 Build :D

Price?

(I mean total price)

I think the PSU is a overkill IMO.

Its updated in the first post, u just need to add it up. I dont like adding it up.

Thanks Grim :D

DdStriker,

Yea that cpu is cooled by Liquid Nitrogen, I am not doing that lol.

Quick Update : Almost a month after the build, rock stable. No BSOD etc *knock on wood*

if you need me to benchmark some games in particular do let me know ;) Don't as me to Benchmark games like Solitaire, Chesss, Sims etc lol.. you get the drift right?

Haven't tried any OC' yet :D However next week I am gonna try that and see how the PWM's react; May get the EVGA Classified just for the digital PWM's.

Yeah thats a sick build bro. I just got hd4850 X2 and I think I over killed it but SLI GTX295, lol. Power to you!

Yeah someone asked in the previous post, what's GTA IV like with this setup? I bet it doesnt go over 50 frames when is maxed out.

Rokstar claims they madetheir game to be maxed out with future hardware.

You should send the benchies to Rockstar and tell them to update their game. If this sytem is not a future hardware system than I dont know what it is....

Cheers

@ Aniv:

I'd be interested in hearing how that v8 is working out for you. I am building a new PC with a Phenom II X4 940 QC and am debating between the v8 and a cooler from Noctua. It's stock 3.0Ghz but I may want to bump that up to around 3.3Ghz. Would be interested to hear your overall thoughts about it thus far.

Kick-ass setup you got there, by the way. I'm inspired. =)

Also, apparently, I cannot edit my post any longer. Can you give some temperatures to go along with that? Idle/Load, and whatnot? From a fresh cool boot to a few hours of use? The more specifics, the better. Would be awesome of you. =)

I imagine the Phenom II X4 940 runs cooler than the i7 so it'd be interesting to see what temps you're getting.

Rogue,

Sorry it too so long to get back to you. I hadn't checked my PM since ages. Well if you are gonna OC @ some point I would suggest go with the Noctua or Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366 RT. The V8 is great if you are running stock though.

I will post some temps tonight, both idle and after 2 3 hours of gaming ;)

No problem, buddy. I'm looking forward to the results.

Hey Rogue, I went with the Thermaltake V1 Max-Performance CPU Cooler, and I have been really happy with it. My rig is really quiet. I actually hear the Raptors now over the fans.... Love it.

I'd highly recommend the sunbeamtech core contact freezer. Idle at 23c, and load at 36c. Running with a Phenom 920. And that's with the fan at low. It's also not as expensive as the v8.

I liked the EVGA X58 Board so much that I decided to do a second build and use it as my my coding/browsing/2d graphics work pc. Parts from my old coding and gaming box are going to be decomissioned soon , watch neobay for some good deals.

To people on neowin.net this system is probably something that's only dreamed of, but this system is actually veyr slow, and below average on today's standards considering what you likley paid for. You seriously need a faster CPU and faster Graphics processing. I feel sorry for you atm. For one you need OC's on both. I'm sorry to see you have low scores on 3dMark as well. Hmm you must be a noob (no offense) or a beginner to this stuff. If you want to actually make this computer change from very slow, to very fast, or need help getting more FPS in your games go to xtremesystems. Quad SLI 295's don't perform as fast as 3-way SLI GTX 285's either so you're also slower there. Your clocks and CPU are very slow, are they not?. Think about the potential of what you can actually do with your system. I am speaking to move you to shame on purpose! Not to bash you. I want you to understand you can do better than this with that system, because EVERYBODY has this system now, and its boringly standard now, and people get them all suped up, so I know you can do better. Here's something for you to chew on for a while. Let this be encouraging becuase you can do this with an I7 920 with the EVGA X58 classsified board ( not to be mistaken with your board). It's 5.4 Ghz running at 1.68v and 7-8-7-19-T1 timings at 2:12 Memory. Dram frequency is 1120Mhz, so your computer is lacking in performance of whatyou can do

@aniv

what are the Case & CPU fans are you using ?

you temperature look great

Thanks dude! I am using the Coolermaster V8 and the Coolermaster Spartan CSX Case with standard front and rear exhaust fan (no fans attached on the side window). I have to yet check the temperatures on the HAF932 build, but it wont be a true comparison to the other build since this is using a 850W PSU, 2 WD 1TB Drives and a single 260 GTX.

@ MarcusG : I am a "noob and a beginner" by your standards and I am not offended by your silly remarks ;) If I wanted to OC I would have.

Personally speaking I wouldn't oc until a while down the road.. firstly you don't REALLY need the extra horses what you have will run what you want quite well enough, and secondly AND most importantly... you don't want to damage your new equipment, I certainly didn't when I built my first multi core pc... I got a E0 q9550 (2.83@1333mhz) and 2 gb of 1600 ram, so to max the ram I upped the cpu fsb to 400 and lowered my multiplier to 7.5 gave me a very modest 3ghz@1600 and didn't tax the chip. Rock solid for a 24/7 machine.

1.68v for cpu ?

get prepared for some fried chips

@ MarcusG : I am a "noob and a beginner" by your standards and I am not offended by your silly remarks ;) If I wanted to OC I would have.

You shouldn't be offended ^^. Telling you your system is "very slow" is just me reemphasizing the point that it's capable of going faster. Your system isn't necessarily "slow" at all realistically speaking. I have a strange personality, so sometimes you might take me wrong, but continue to be mild tempered and in time you'll understand me more. I know it did sound a little harsh though... I'm %150 sure you can get some good clocks out of that setup. You will get more than what you paid for if you do it correctly. My GPU setup is actually the same as yours, but I needed to increase volts to 1.200 to raise my clocks above 720Mhz core and be stable at the same time. The shaders on the 295 are very heat limited, so i suggest if you decide to OC them to increase video game performance, then you will need some rather adaquate cooling methods. With these cards, it's learned by many that it doesn't really depend on your voltages, but it really depends on your cooling method. Your CPU is a different story though.

PS. oh and yes, i do like your system very much. Who can resist an I7 with the two best video cards on the planet? not many can.

Yeah it can get very hot without proper cooling. I'm using hypercooling. My case is freezing cold, but I don't need to enable sub-zero cooling options in my EVGA mobo since the volts are so high it keeps the system at some pretty normal temps.

MarcusG, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

:) I knew someone was going to say this. Now relax, don't turn a flame into a fire. Although it is true what I said. This forum does NOT evolve around topics like this, and you and I both konw that. Although It would be nicer if they did have more sub-forums here about these subjects, then more overclockers would be here. Trust me you don't know much about this kind of stuff, that's because likley you're here at Neowin, a place that thrives more on other topics that people are more interested in and there's nothing wrong with that. My point still holds correct. I admire your insults though. Keep em commin'. I hope i'm encouraging you. ^^
