To people on neowin.net this system is probably something that's only dreamed of, but this system is actually very slow, and below average on today's standards considering what you likely paid for it. You seriously need a faster CPU and faster Graphics processing.

Firstly, are you serious? I am sure you are just filled with envy and only wish you had a system like this....this system is capable of being the benchmark king in the right hands, and its already proven, as this exact setup (Core i7 + Quad GTX295's) holds the 3DMark Vantage record of P40k....and to say he seriously needs faster CPU & Graphics Processing is undoubtedly a retarded statement.

because EVERYBODY has this system now, and its boringly standard now.

Let's see those pictures of your Core i7 Extreme, with Quad SLI'd GTX295s or Tri-SLI'd 285s. Because it is so boringly standard now, right?.....

Here's something for you to chew on for a while. Let this be encouraging because you can do this with an I7 920 with the EVGA X58 classified board ( not to be mistaken with your board). It's 5.4 GHz running at 1.68v and 7-8-7-19-T1 timings at 2:12 Memory. Dram frequency is 1120Mhz, so your computer is lacking in performance of what you can do

It's actually running at basically 1.7v (effectively 1.693v). That thing will be fried within a few months, if not weeks if he really runs it 1.7vcore for 24/7 use. I am assuming that is just a benchmark session run and he was probably using either DICE, LN2, or LH Cooling with a CPU Pot for those volts, if not that guy is an idiot.

:) I knew someone was going to say this. Now relax, don't turn a flame into a fire. Although it is true what I said. This forum does NOT evolve around topics like this, and you and I both konw that. Although It would be nicer if they did have more sub-forums here about these subjects, then more overclockers would be here. Trust me you don't know much about this kind of stuff, that's because likley you're here at Neowin, a place that thrives more on other topics that people are more interested in and there's nothing wrong with that. My point still holds correct. I admire your insults though. Keep em commin'. I hope i'm encouraging you. ^^

You knew I was gonna quote Billy Madison? Jesus H. CHRIST MAN!!! Give me the California Lottery numbers for Wednesday!!

You sound like a bot.

.Yeah it can get very hot without proper cooling. I'm using hypercooling. My case is freezing cold, but I don't need to enable sub-zero cooling options in my EVGA mobo since the volts are so high it keeps the system at some pretty normal temps.

You my friend are quite mistaken. It's not the temperature that is in danger of damaging the CPU, it's the (that's right you guessed it!) VOLTAGE.

There have been CPU's that have suffered degradation from voltage even from running at 50C load.

http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=428

They fried their QX9650 with just over 1.45v in a 24 hour load test.

are you serious?

Not exactly, you missed the point of my last few points entirely lol tssk tssk

I am sure you are just filled with envy and only wish you had a system like this

lol Doesn't everybody have a system like this? Do you not know these things? Have you not been around or researched other forums? This is something you do not know, obviously.

....this system is capable of being the benchmark king in the right hands, and its already proven, as this exact setup (Core i7 + Quad GTX295's) holds the 3DMark Vantage record of P40k....

You've mistaken once again. It's not the I7 that's no good, or the 295's, but the proper dialing and adjustments and hardware, not to mention clocks and methods which this forum is unaware of. This is not a forum based entirely on systems like this, which was my point in the first place. Thanks.

and to say he seriously needs faster CPU & Graphics Processing is undoubtedly a retarded statement.

He paid almost 1k for the video cards, and the CPU around $249, so excuse me? Yes he does need a faster system with that kind of payment he laid down. Does this mean he needs 'another' system, and was jipped out of his wallet? NO. This basically means he needs to OC his system and get MORE than what he paid for. Yes you're right buddy, he DOES need a faster system so he gets every penny worth, and the whole point is, HE CAN ACHIEVE THIS WITH WHAT HE HAS. Goahead and question me some more Lucky ;)

Let's see those pictures of your Core i7 Extreme, with Quad SLI'd GTX295s or Tri-SLI'd 285s. Because it is so boringly standard now, right?.....

lol you still don't understand me when I say "boringly standard". I was exaggurating a point which you're too dumb ot understand! (ooOO!) ;) And yes, I do have a system like this, that's my point, EVERYONE does. Do you not agree? Or do you not know these things? Doesn't mostly everyone have it now? Well, i guess you wouldn't know anything about that huh :) You post in neowin, this kind of stuff is unknown here.

It's actually running at basically 1.7v (effectively 1.693v). l

lol please avoid your boasting. There's no need to get tough. I know it feels good, but you need to have more self-control than this. 1.7 is the same, and if you knew what I was talking about you wouldn't have replied with this statement....

ok next.... :D

I am assuming that is just a benchmark session run and he was probably using either DICE, LN2, or LH Cooling with a CPU Pot for those volts, if not that guy is an idiot. BZZZ! wrong again lol You really need to look this stuff up to understand :) You sound so mad lol Good night buddy, relax and calm down, you will make more sense that way. Now... according to this reply you know nothing about these CPU's lol Should we even go there? His CPU will last him llight years longer then your guess.

You knew I was gonna quote Billy Madison? Jesus H. CHRIST MAN!!! Give me the California Lottery numbers for Wednesday!!

You sound like a bot.

lol I really need to practice my bot skills again. :) Billy Madison.

BZZZ! wrong lol Let me give you some homework. Look up VDROOP :) I'll be your teacher, you be my student. Now go, and look that up. I want you to find how voltages affect temperature fluctuation and you need to type on a peice of "paper" in detail what it does. I'll grade your paper :p

And by the way, this will not shorten the life span even to a fraction of death anytime soon, just incase you didn't know.

Also, you can't compare a Q9650 with an I7 lol they are entirely different when overclocking and react entirely different... ok you know what, that's enough! I will give you an assignment sheet on this as well... well, you need to complete your first assignment first.

err Marcus he said he didn't want to overclock it yet but will soon are you retarded? :D

no not everyone has these kind of Pc's some of us have to work for our money :)

wait till he over clocks it before you start bragging to him about how he needs to over clock it more for his e-peen to grow :p

but again no one really needs that much processing power for general use and theres no real point to it unless your pc sucks and you want more performance otherwise the i7 is powerful enough to do all the tasks you want and more

in the end who really cares about benchmark points if your comp can play your games flawlessly :p

That case went from $999 to $276 ??/ NOw THAT is a sale !!!

I love these threads, I get so sick of the "I have 4 dollars, but I want to play Crysis, can you help me ?"

or the " I cant afford anything good, so Im just gonna get an e-machine....will it play Crysis ?"

nice to see someone who says, "yeah I just dropped $2500 on this....so what ?!?"

nice job man, enjoy !

@Marcus --

not sure where to begin with this f*ckt*rd - you are either delirious, or just trolling - feeling all warm and safe behind your Compaq.

To say "everyone has this" you really think 1% of the total computer owning populous is "everyone" ??

What gives you the right to talk to someone like that -- nowhere was he bragging, or boasting, or even talking smack !

You are no teacher - youre the forum-equivalent to a scriptkiddie - you 1111111111 all over extremesystems.org wanting to "be one of them" ?

- dont come in here bashing neowin by telling someone they know nothing, hence the reason for posting in here --

I dont know if there is a God - but I hope nobody else shows you mercy when you open your mouth to someone in person -- maybe then you'll learn to be more respectful.

That pretty much sums up Marcus to a T. (Y) I don't have anything else to add, because further argument with this kid would only lead to him spreading more rumors of which he doesn't know sh*t about.

I'd recommend the kid to a better known forum for dedicate overclocking / high end cooling such as liquid nitrogen, and liquid helium, but they wouldn't have any of him, he'd be banned within a day of joining.

There mere fact that you used Vdroop already indicates that you have no idea what you are talking about. I seriously dare you to go to Hard Forums or AnandTech forum and spew the garbage you're talking about right now. You'll get torn apart.

Vdroop is a SAFETY precaution for your processor. I have YET to see Vdroop/Vdrop past 0.2v (because if you say you have your voltage at 1.7, a 0.2v vDroop would put load voltage at 1.5v which by the way is still not safe for a 45nm chip for 24/7 use). So with that in mind, tell me how vDroop would save your CPU?

You can't compare a QX9650 to a Core i7? Well I hope you know that because of the integrated memory controller in Core i7, it's even MORE sensitive to voltage. Even increasing vDIMM past 1.85v (IF your board and RAM are of good quality)can cause permanent CPU damage (note, incomparison Core 2 vDIMM voltage can go as high as 2.3v)

http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=3426

Why else do you think they released low voltage DDR3 RAM when i7 came out? Because OCZ, Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin, Patriot and G.Skill all collectively wanted to do it for major kicks and giggles? Maybe their respective CEO's were like "OH SNAP, let's release some of this low voltage for the heck of it! Tell the other companies about it, it'll be the next best thing!"

May God have mercy on your hardware when you decide to build an i7 system. Here's a recommendation, buy a Dynex PSU for it. 100W will be enough to run it and SLI GTX 280's.

Nah man, don't listen to shift, a 100w is overkill. Get a 65w Power supply, it'll be plenty for those SLI'd GTX280's and a i7 CPU, be sure to crank it up to full load to while its overclocked at like 4.5-5.0GHz with 1.6vcore, and run intel burn test & Prime95 at the same time, it'll stress test that computer of yours good, MarcusG.

When you see smoke coming from the motherboard, don't worry thats just the uber sub-zero cooling kicking in.

    • I'm still on Windows 10 22H2 because I didn't want to deal with all the issues in Windows 11, so I waited almost a week before installing the latest Patch Tuesday update (KB5094127), I went ahead and did it, and it was a huge mistake—ever since then, my File Explorer has seen a performance drop of about 30% when transferring large files... Once again, Microsoft has outdone itself! This update cannot be uninstalled, either through the Control Panel (via Settings) or by accessing Advanced Startup Options. The only possible alternative would be to use system restore points, but I’d have to reinstall all app and driver updates (and there’s no guarantee it would work). Or there’s the “nuclear option” of a in-place repair without losing files or apps, but even then, all my customizations would be lost! Microsoft just can’t help but mess everything up! Way to go, Microsoft! But I still don’t want your c****y Windows 11!
    • Microsoft: Windows 11 could finally solve a major issue across AMD, Nvidia, and Intel GPUs by Sayan Sen While Microsoft has been trying to improve it, Windows 11 is definitely not flawless, as even today some issues are taking a year to publicly acknowledge. However, one area of trouble that may finally see much better results soon is graphics driver crashes. Work on graphics driver timeouts, also called Timeout and Detection Recovery (TDR), is not new as the latest WDDM 3.2 also has specific improvements regarding it. Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) version 3.2 is supported on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. However, with the upcoming version 26H2, TDR crash diagnosis could go to the next level as Microsoft is introducing a new DirectX 12 API feature called "DirectX Dump Files". Similar to how system memory dump files work when a system crashes or freezes or encounters any such major issue, DirectX Dump Files (DDF) will essentially record a snapshot of the GPU execution right at the moment a graphics-related crash or hang or freeze occurs, so that developers can better understand and diagnoze these TDR and timeout detection errors. The dump will be available as a .dxdmp file for analysis and it will be a comprehensive dump file generated with detailed insights about the hardware, drivers, Windows, as well as the affected application. This should be another welcome change in this department. Earlier at GDC 2026, when the technology was first debuted, Microsoft had shared more details regarding it. The company had explained how DDF is designed to gather data from every layer of the graphics stack into a single file, eliminating the need for developers to manually correlate logs from multiple tools. As mentioned above, the dump can contain a lot of useful details like GPU hardware state information such as register values, shader program counters, page fault virtual addresses, shader memory data, and command buffers. Alongside that, it also captures DirectX runtime and kernel information, including D3D objects, pipeline state objects, device error data, adapter details, and CPU call stacks. Microsoft says the feature has been built around two primary use cases: retail device removals and local device removals. The former allows developers to collect crash information from end users' systems in the field, while the latter helps QA teams and developers investigate issues on test machines. Developers will also be able to include up to 2 MB of custom application data through new D3D12 APIs, providing additional context for troubleshooting. In addition, Microsoft is introducing three dump collection modes ranging from zero-overhead capture, which has no runtime performance impact on supported hardware, to higher-detail modes that collect more vendor-specific debugging data. On compatible Tier 2 hardware, zero-overhead dumps will be enabled by default, meaning developers may begin receiving useful crash diagnostics without making any code changes. The table below explains the three tiers: Tier Description NO_OVERHEAD Enables crash capture with no runtime cost and is suitable for broad deployment MEDIUM_OVERHEAD Provides a balance, capturing additional diagnostic data with moderate impact HIGH_OVERHEAD Collects the most detailed GPU and driver state available, enabling deeper investigation at the cost of higher runtime overhead In terms of availability, the company expects broader release to be around the fall of 2026, which should be right around the time when Windows 11 version 26H2 lands. Right now, DirectX Dump Files are available as a preview and currently, only AMD has the compatible AgilitySDK Developer Preview driver version 26.10.07.02. You can find the official announcement post here on Microsoft's website.
