i have a vista 64 bit os and i'm running mcafee 8.7 with the latest updates...

Sounds like windows defender is blocking. I couldn't say why but it is that or windows firewall, make sure that the firewall is allowing McAfee, and also check windows defender, it should be in the control panel, security center. I personally do not use defender so I can not tell you how to fix it, but look at this Microsoft Support Page and it might be able to help you! :)
