Nero 9.2.6.0 does not install in Vista SP1 x64

Question

Hi all Nero Vista users, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. The problem is as this, I try to install Nero 9.2.6.0 with only Nero Burning ROM and the InfoTool only for the stubborn thing to tell me it "failed" to install. It hasn't even installed yet, it happens right after I finish with the custom decisions or even try typical with the whole load. It works perfectly on my build with 32 bit Vista and 64 bit 7 on this same machine. I never installed Nero and it suggests me to use the cleantool when there is nothing. I've tried deleting all Ahead and Nero registry keys but there were none. I downloaded it from Nero's FTP site and the MD5's match as well, the installed versions work perfectly. I even rebooted several times to no avail.

System Specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 Penryn 2.4GHz

4GB RAM

320GB with over 150GB free

nVidia Geforce 9600m 512MB RAM using HP's online driver which should have 179.xx

I'll provide more info if needed tell me

Nothing really besides the main system icons such as Bluetooth, Volume, Safely Remove, avast av, and sync center (it just leaves the icon). Heres my hijacklog at the time

Nero 9.2.6.0 installs successfully on my Vista SP1 64-bit laptop. I did have one post-install issue..one of the .dll files did not register properly during the installation (I think bcgpoleacc.dll), but registering the file manually fixed that glitch.

I left most of the components enabled during the install (I took out random stuff like the wave editor thing), if that helps.

Did you leave Avast running during the install, or did you disable it? Antivirus apps tend to interfere with software installations..

Maybe try doing a clean uninstall (assuming there's anything in the Vista program list to uninstall), then use the Nero cleantool to try to clean up random stuff. Other than that try deleting these before attempting install:

Registry:

- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nero

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Ahead

- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Ahead\Nero

Folders:

- c:\program files (x86)\nero

- c:\program files (x86)\common files\nero

- %useprofile%\AppData\Local\Nero

- %useprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Nero

- %temp% (aka delete all your temporary files in case the failed Nero install left crap behind)

..reboot after cleanup & see what happens on attempted reinstall. Also make sure you're launching the installer with "Run As Administrator", if you aren't already :)

^ did all that deleting the registry keys, the common and the temp extracted files while there was nothing else only to no difference. Anything else?

Did you already try disabling Avast before the install?

Also, does Nero install if you just leave the selected components install by default, rather than uncheck them?

Yes I did disable it as well and tried both options with no difference. Is it a bug within the installer because this shouldn't be happening...Seriously, it works on a beta OS but not on a final product plus SP1...lame

    • OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT memory by Pradeep Viswanathan OpenAI is rolling out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's memory, making the system more capable, current, and scalable across long-term use. Memory allows ChatGPT to remember useful details about users, including their preferences, projects, and constraints. Instead of starting every conversation from scratch, ChatGPT can use this context to provide more relevant responses in future chats. OpenAI first launched saved memories in February 2024. That feature allowed users to explicitly ask ChatGPT to save information into its memory, such as travel plans or writing preferences. However, this system had limits because it depended heavily on users giving clear instructions to remember something. Additionally, saved memories could become stale over time. In April 2025, OpenAI expanded memory by allowing ChatGPT to reference past chat context outside the saved memories list. This was powered by a background process called “dreaming,” which automatically curates memories from chat history. This made ChatGPT better at learning from natural conversation without requiring users to manually save every detail. Today, OpenAI announced a more capable and compute-efficient memory architecture built on top of dreaming. This new system improves ChatGPT’s ability to carry forward useful context, follow user preferences, and remain accurate as time passes. According to OpenAI’s internal evaluations, the new system improves factual recall from 67.9% in 2025 to 82.8% in 2026. Preference adherence improves from 55.3% to 71.3%, while accuracy over time improves from 52.2% to 75.1%. The best part of this new system is a new memory summary page where users can review ChatGPT's memories. Users can even update details, correct information, or give instructions on what topics ChatGPT should bring up and when. This new, improved memory system is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the US starting today. It will roll out to more countries, as well as Free and Go users, in the coming weeks.
    • I work for a video production company in Australia. The camera operators shoot footage and then pass the SD card over to the editors. Much easier than handing over the entire camera. Plus, on a busy day you can hand off the SD card and then pop another in for the next shoot. Or, you might have used multiple SD cards because you need the extra space for a long shoot. I also use USB cables and wifi for transferring footage, but in many cases an SD card reader is the easiest method.
