V - Early Screening Review

So I had the opportunity today to see the pilot episode of the reboot of V due to hit television this fall. I have to say it was pretty entertaining and I will definitely be giving it a look this fall. The premise is still pretty much the same ?Alien visitors who up claiming to be our friends, but have a hidden agenda that has grave consequences for mankind? and many of the characters will be familiar to you as well.

The pilot stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Scott Wolf, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, Morris Chestnut and Joel Gretsch.

Elizabeth Mitchell and Alan Tudyk play agents with the Department of Homeland Security who are investigating a terrorist sleeper cell operating out of New York. Morris Chestnut plays a businessman with a shady past that ties directly to the events leading up to the Visitors? arrival. Joel Gertsch plays a priest struggling with his faith in the face of an alien appearance that shakes his core beliefs that is suddenly thrust into a conspiracy when a dying man in his church gives him info on the aliens. Morena Baccarin plays the enigmatic Anna, leader of the Visitors. Scott Wolf plays the journalist with high aspirations who sees the Visitor?s arrival as a way to further his career. He quickly befriends Anna and the two form a bond.

Overall the show has a good production value. The special effects were not the best, but at the same time they did not detract from the show. It certainly feels live the original V complete with their arrival as the large saucer ships show up over all the major cities of the world. It kind of had the feel of really wanting to be serious which I think was done well. The Sci-Fi is kept to a minimum other than the Visitors? tech and it firmly kept itself grounded in reality as much as show with this kind of premise could.

If the show can keep up the pace that the pilot set, it could be a very good show. It certainly has a JJ Abrams feel to it in the way it was shot. There is plenty of opportunity for sub-plots as well as all of the characters appear to have a certain depth written into them that is only very briefly touched upon in the pilot.

I remember watching "V: The Miniseries" & "V: The Final Battle", as well as "V: The Series" on TV way back when. I know Kenneth Johnson at one point was trying to bring "V" back, is he helping on this or did they kick him to the curb; because every place he approched did not want to touch "V".

the more people they cast from other series i already like (4400, lost, firefly) just sealed that ill watch atleast the first few episodes. I hope this turns out well

Yeah that last promo really hyped me for this show.

Yeah, really. Is there are SciFi Screen Actors Guild that says you can only hire SciFi actors for SciFi shows or something? Why do we see all the same people over and over again.

Take for example, this guy. He seems to show up as an accessory character in just about everything.

His business card might as well say, "Need a black guy for a SciFi production? Call me."

I mean, he's cool and all. I still think of him as the Joshua alien character from First Wave but I laugh whenever I unexpectedly see him in something.

    • Microsoft brings Planner Agent to all Microsoft 365 Copilot users by Ivan Jenic Image: Microsoft Microsoft has announced that Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot is now generally available to all users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Planner Agent is the latest addition in the string of AI features that Microsoft is implementing across virtually all of its products. The agent lets you manage tasks through natural language prompts directly inside Microsoft 365 Copilot. You can create and update tasks, check priorities, and get insights about current entries without leaving the chat interface. The general availability release comes with a handful of new additions on top of what was available during the initial rollout. A new plan picker lets you search and filter your plans by name, then update task names, statuses, due dates, or priorities through the agent. There's also a goals bucket now, which lets you group tasks under specific goals. This builds on the Goals view, a feature that was introduced as part of the broader Planner refresh that rolled out earlier. Image: Microsoft | Planner Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot All AI-generated plans and tasks are created in draft mode by default, so you can review and approve changes before anything goes through. This is actually a thoughtful safety feature, because trusting AI to handle all your tasks without a human in the loop is usually a recipe for disaster. Having tasks initially saved as drafts is the best possible middle ground. Microsoft also says that not all tasks are executed equally. Simple tasks get processed quickly, while more complex ones, like building a plan from a Word, Excel, or PowerPoint file, are handed to a more capable model. Microsoft says this approach delivers the best performance, but it could also help with usage management, as you won't have to waste tokens on performing simple tasks. Planner Agent is available now across Teams, Loop, SharePoint, and other Microsoft 365 apps for anyone on a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription.
    • To be clear I'm anti trump, the bigger point is why review this game at all?
    • Trillion dollar Microsoft has to reduce spending by hurting more people. Good job Microsoft. Good Job Asha.
    • That's a shame. The big Xbox reset when Phil and Sarah left and then Asha came on and brought a new team of executives, and all the layoffs last year and saying that the ABK merger wouldn't result in redundancies I am surprised they are calling for yet another reset and yet more layoffs.
    • Arkane, Ninja Theory, and Double Fine might be on the chopping block too.
