I know the old series was on after Miami Vice on ITV in the early-mid 80s. I know this because my mate recorded it - and when his parents were out we'd watch V, then rewind and watch Miami Vice (but we must not get caught watching it cos it had all swearing and stuff and it was forbidden).

I'm a bit behind as I'd only heard of this yesterday, which was great timing as they show the original mini series on sci-fi down here. I was actually wondering when they'd remake it as it was awesome.

This looks pretty good, I wonder how long it'll last though as wasn't the original series only 2 seasons or so?

Miami Vice was considered wholesome? Drugs and prostitutes? Really?

At least V had unrealistic violence.

Lucky Comic-Con-goers today got a look at the pilot for ABC's V, a retelling of the 1980s sci-fi miniseries about a mysterious alien invasion that purports to come in peace. The packed ballroom kept the enthusiasm in check for most of the pilot, save an initial cheer for Elizabeth Mitchell's butt-kicking skills as an FBI agent and the appearance of Morena Baccarin, aka the gorgeous actress who plays Anna, the high commander of the alien species. Afterwards, there wasn't much time for the stars to talk about the CG-heavy pilot (and yep, the space ships look pretty legit) -- though Mitchell admitted to loving the old miniseries and how she still remembers the "alien babies" (for more on how Mitchell will balance her new role on V and any loose ends she may or may not have to tie up in Lost, read more here).

Fans were particularly thrilled to see Joel Gretsch (The 4400) play a fellow agent in the pilot, while exec producer Scott Peters says the references to contemporary topics (like universal health care) were more than just coincidental (the aliens offer free health care for all, among other frightening things). "Wouldn't it be nice if 29 ships showed up to say, 'We'll help'?" he said.

V, which also stars Scott Wolf (Party of Five) as a TV journalist who snags the first interview with Anna, debuts in November on ABC.

While ABC's soon-to-be hit series V is a Comic-Con virgin, its actors certainly weren't. Boasting such names as Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell, Firefly's Morena Baccarin and Alan Tudyk , The 4400's Joel Gretsch and Smallville's Laura Vandervoort, honestly how can you go wrong?

Comic-Con 2009 Franchise Brick

The fans were certainly pleased to see the reimagining of the early '80s mini-series that brought the Visitors to Earth. Lucky for the non-attending Comic-Con fans, the series is jumping from midseason to a November premiere date, so you won't have to wait too long to see it. Also lucky for those fans, we've now watched the pilot four times and can give you the low-down on what's coming up, as well as scoop straight from the cast on who to trust on the show. Hint: No one.

One early morning, 29 giant spaceships settle over major cities all over the world. While the leader of the Visitors, Anna (Baccarin), says they're willing to share their knowledge and technology in exchange for resources needed to get them home, she's actually fibbing.?Sure they say they "are of peace, always," but there's a very dark and sinister ulterior motive, which includes gaining the devotion of the people of Earth before anihilating them.

Problem is, the Vs didn't just show up, they've been here for a while, possibly as long as 50 years ago. They have long since infiltrated our planet, obtaining positions from police officers and FBI detectives to government officials. While some find the arrival of the Visitors heaven sent, laregly in part to their medical centers that cure 65 different ailments, others, like Mitchell's character Erica, doubt their friendly nature. Mitchell's fears are realized when she's tracking a sleeper cell who's activity has spiked upon the Visitors arrival.

This is where the convergence of two stories come together. On the one side, Erica is trying to find out who is behind this mystrious sleeper cell, on the other side, Georgie (David Richmond-Peck) is recruiting civilians to take down the Visitors, including Morris Chestnut's Ryan Nichols, who?Spoiler Alert?is actually a V rebelling against his race and living in peace among the humans. This is where trust comes into play, because Ryan's not the only V hiding his identity. Alan Tudyk has a secret too...he is a V and he's not a savory guy. Did we mention his character, Dale Maddox, is Erica's partner at the FBI?

Trust. Out. The. Window. (In case you're wondering, Tudyk won't be staying around long due to his obligations on Dollhouse, and the fact that he's a murderous alien)

Logan Huffman, Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Scott Wolf, V ABC/BOB D'AMICO

"Any of us could be [a Visitor]," says Scott Wolf. "Your high school English professor could have been a Visitor. Bob Dylan might be a Visitor. It breaths that sense of anxiety and mistrust."

Speaking of Scott Wolf, his character, a reporter named Chad Dekker, has been chosen by Anna to deliver all messages through him. Just a little snag though, he can't paint the Visitors in a bad light. So in Chad's claim to fame, he's willing to do anything to stay on top, including endangering the human race. Says Wolf, "Will he feel guilt? Probably yeah, but will he also see the opportunity and lose out to his better self? Maybe." If it comes down to a choice between humans and his carrer though? "At this point, I'd say his career. He's that guy," adds Wolf.

So pretty much the human race is on a path of destruction unless the underground movement can tear people away from devoting their lives, literally, to the Visitors. It's not going to be an easy journey, we can tell you that much.

Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Elizabeth Mitchell, who talks all things V and spills some details about her return to Lost.

    • If someone chooses to continue using SB and therefore goes through the manual intervention in the thread, afterwards the BSOD problem is gone. Whether they then re-enable the task doesn't matter, they're done, though on such machines it might pay to keep it disabled in case the next update (if there is a next) causes the same problem. OTOH, if someone disables SB in the BIOS, the problem is also gone. Incidentally, I noticed that this task exists even on machines that don't support SB. It's just installed across the board...and runs. Doing what on such machines is a little hazy.
