Server Monitoring Software

  • 4 years later...

Server & Application Monitor makes it easy to monitor custom applications including component monitors for services, processes, ports, scripts, WMI performance counters, and scripts from 3rd party open source monitoring tools such as Nagios.

Love this but man is it expensive.

Sever manager has built in resource metering (start performance counters) if you need a less expensive solution

If you're stuck on windows (and depending on the complexity you're looking for) you may want to consider:

http://www.shinken-monitoring.org/

I've had a lot of success using Shinken on CentOS boxes for monitoring, but it installs on windows.

Shinken is based on the nagios / icinga project, but has been rewritten in python and set up for distributed monitoring and data collection. It uses nagios config files, and when set up correctly will monitor and alert on any number of metrics.

Alternatively, you could consider monitoring as a service; it's trivially inexpensive and you can be sure it's done correctly and save some headaches. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

That it does, as it should - it is, basically, Performance Monitor for servers. System Center Operations Manager can be used to monitor multiple servers and server clusters - of the real, virtual, and mixed sorts.

would you like a windows / android app to do this? I use http://www.mobilepcmonitor.com/ for monitoring my home server. It's free for something like 3 or 5 machines, after that you have to pay. If you need more, look at nagios/splunk, but I like that i can get alerts diretly to my phone, as well as perform operations on the server from the app. They have a windows tool as well if you'd rather monitor from your workstation.

This is what I use for 10 servers, it has a lot of features and you can setup a lot of alerts based on specific issues/thresholds.
