i wanted a better looking skin to go with the green classix msstyle so when i saw giga's screenshot of the olive style based on bant's mod i deceided to whip this up. what you see is what i've modified, nothing else. i'm showing this just to throw some ideas out there for the winamp skinners. some things could be better, like the buttons, but it suits what i wanted.

that looks exellent

So are we going for longest running thread? Never had to read so many pages just to catch up ;) Anyhow, I really like the progress that's being made. Thanks to giga for keeping me up-to-date even though I've slacked off on some of my "promises" :D

I've come to respect giga and saint even more as of late. Been experimenting with my own little visual style over the past week and, while I'm quite accomplished as a designer in other areas, I've found that getting a theme to "feel" just right is harder than I anticipated. In short, great work you two and Bant, as well as everyone else who is doing Classix/Classix 10k inspired application skins.

@giga, could PM you with this but I'm being lazy... if you need any mirrors for Classix 10k, the space is there for you just as with Classix. Let me know.

hi could anyone teach me how to replace the logoff bmps, i replaced Dialog #1089 but have no idea where the .bmp goes to

You might want to change it back to the original for now cause its not working yet.

Im trying to figure out why but Im not succeeding so far.

The buttons are perfect. The only thing I would change the title bar on the main window. Just make it go all the way to the left like your playlist.

arg, once again, it doesnt work yet. Im trying to figure it out but not succeeding so far. When I do, Ill let Giga know and he will notify all of you.. that is IF I get it to work.

Well, don't think negatively. Just take your time, ease your brain. You'll think better that way.

Its basically the same thing, but Im having trouble making the Please Wait dialog work. I have a thread in the Customizing Windows XP section, can you please go check it out and see if you know how to solve it?

Thanks

edit: its called "shell32.dll help - experts please" if you cant find it.

Hey jester good to hear from you again. :D Thanks for the kind words, I'd be interested in seeing what you've been working on, care to send it to me? Thanks for the hosting, I might need this latest version mirrored if you don't mind. :) Don't be a stranger, you can't miss that giant PM button under each of my posts. :p

snively: That looks really good, maybe add a little icon or something to that empty space on the left side of the titlebar? Did you use Art's Classix winamp skin as a base?

Just to clarify, the only thing that isn't being displayed correctly is the "Please Wait" dialog. The Logoff and Shutdown dialogs work fine, for me at least. :s

Giga, they dont (both).

Apparently, the backgournd bmp for both windows is bmp resource 14354 and not a seperate for each one (I have no idea what 14351 is for but its not the log off nor the please wait dialog). Therefore you have to delete the words from the backgrounds and somehow add them through #1089 which Ive done but having problems with. The part Im having trouble with is the font. The font wont change, it stays the same even though I told it to change (its the same as in the original dialog).

If you know how to solve this, please let me know.

Thanks

Ok, I included instructions in the c10k archive (Extras\logoff bitmaps) but I'll post it here anyway and explain.

This is for the logoff dialog only.

Open up shell32.dll, the bitmap that needs to be changed is 14354. Modify Dialog #1089, delete what's there and paste in the following:

1089 DIALOGEX 0, 0, 165, 88

STYLE DS_SYSMODAL | DS_SETFOREGROUND | WS_POPUP | WS_BORDER

CAPTION ""

LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US

FONT 8, "MS Shell Dlg"

{

  CONTROL "&Cancel", 2, BUTTON, BS_PUSHBUTTON | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_TABSTOP, 122, 77, 40, 10

  CONTROL "&Switch User", 14338, BUTTON, BS_OWNERDRAW | BS_NOTIFY | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_TABSTOP, 24, 33, 16, 10

  CONTROL "&Log Off", 14339, BUTTON, BS_OWNERDRAW | BS_NOTIFY | WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_TABSTOP, 124, 33, 16, 10

}

Compile, Save and you're done. This is what I did and it works perfectly. The last time I poked around in Shell32.dll was about a month ago so I'm not entirely sure about the "Please Wait" dialog.

Yeah, Ive done, seen, and changed it a bit but its still doesnt work.

Can you PM me yr email so I can send you a screenshot cause I dont think you understand the problem?

If you are still using the original dialogs, you can see that there is a big white font on them. This font is what Im trying to change. I tried doing it through resource #1089 but it only affects the other words but not that.

Ill post a picture tomorrow.

yeah i'm using the original classix skin as the base. like i said if you guys want to use that, i'll finish it up and get permission.

classix 10k is awesome,

i like the bants ergo mod alot but i dont like how when you maximize a window the top of the window changes, is it possible for a version to be released where this doesnt happen, then classix 10k would be flawless!

yeah, same here! i like the bant's ergo mod too and the only thing i dont like is the top of the maximized window!

    • Xbox Insiders get Xbox 360 achievements and Gamertag character upgrades by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is continuing its fast-paced update schedule for Xbox Insiders. Today, the company announced a new slate of features it is rolling out to Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring, which includes an expansion to the gamertag system, Xbox 360 achievements, and more. The unique Gamertag that Xbox users can choose for their profile is getting more characters. Instead of the 12-character limit, Insiders will now be able to get a Gamertag that's 15 characters long. The 12-character limit will still apply to Gamertags that are not unique or contain any non-Latin characters. Meanwhile, Microsoft is adding Xbox 360 game support to its Game Hubs. Selecting an installed Xbox 360 game on a modern Xbox console will now show achievement progress, captures, and other information. Achievement pop-ups are back for these classics too, which should be good news for achievement hunters. The next change is for Xbox players who can't wait to jump into their games when an update is required. "If a game requires an update and is available to stream through your Game Pass membership, you can start playing immediately with cloud gaming while the update downloads in the background," explains Microsoft. The final change of this Insider update is once again to the game cards. Insiders will find that all games, both released and upcoming, will now have a simple button to add to their profile's wishlist, making the process much easier from a single place. This Xbox update is rolling out today to Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring. As usual, Microsoft aims to bring it to more Insiders over time before they reach all Xbox owners. Head here to find out how to join the Xbox Insider Program to get a chance to test these features and upcoming ones on both consoles and PC.
