Mess up with UXtheme patcher

Recommended Posts

A long story short, I stupidly downloaded and installed the UXtheme Patcher without knowing what it did and now I'm stuck with this annoying XP Classic them. Whats worse is My PC blue screens occaisionally due to a driver problem before all this.

I installed it whilst looking for custom themes, but the website I downloaded it from didn't explain anything. I just wanna get my Wndows XP back to normal, thanks.

from the original XP install cd expand the original uxtheme.dll file. (uxtheme.dl_)

the command for expand:

expand x:\i386\UXTHEME.DL_ c:\UXTHEME.DLL

(x = is your cdrom drive letter and c:\ = whatever you want)

now you have the original uxtheme.dll in your "c:\" drive.

after that download replacer (google first result) and use this tool to replace the file. it will tell you what to do. just run it and do what it says. done.

Sorry for the double post, the edit button didn't show up.

I wouldn't mind the classic look but it has done more than I thought. The top right buttons to close the windows are incredibly small. I noticed in Task Manager, there is only 35 - 40 processes running where I usually have about 60. My Windows Live Messenger/MSN won't even start up, I get an error when I try to start up steam "Microsoft visual C++ Runtime Libray Runtime Error This application has caused the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Please contact application services."

Some of my Shift commands have messed up, for example: quote marks are usually "SHIFT + 2" but for me it makes an "@" sign.

It's definately not I virus as I have done several checks.

I tried starting over and manually patching the file. it seemed to work but the theme I chose (Luna Element Black) still displays incredibly small close buttons and the problems above. Firefox, CoD4 and Malwarebytes anti-virus are the only programmes I've tried that have worked.

Any suggestions? This is incredibly worrying...
