New PS3 blu-ray drive coming?

Recommended Posts

The PSU wouldn't bother me, as it would always be out of sight, but I suppose it would be better. tbh, the size of the PS3 doesn't bother me anyway, It's not like I carry it around with me.

Saying that, I don't think I'd mind if all future consoles were standard AV component dimensions. It would be a lot tidier, and as far as I'm concerned, it's what's happening on the screen that matters.

You don't really believe that do you?

Because consoles can't last that length of time, right?

Oh wait, they can.

Sony want their console to go that long, if it happens good on them/it, if it doesn't we'll look at why it didn't once it is dieing/dies from the retail shelf. In the meantime people need to stop crying their eyes out everytime a "10 year plan" gets mentioned. They're doing it because they managed to get the PS1/PS2 pretty much ticking for that length of time, so no need for the "ohs" and "ahhs" whenever they talk about that plan for the PS3 again. If a MS/Nintendo console of recent generations had lasted that length of time of course they'd also be wanting to talk about that and emulate it again. It's a target for success, never 100% obtainable, but always a possibility.

It just makes people sound bitter at the idea of the PS3 going for a long time when they start whining about the "10 year plan". Which is sad, because as an owner I sure as hell want it to last as long as possible to maximize my moneys worth out of the hundreds I spent on it. The positive chit chat from Sony may be hollow until it actually proves the talk and does last 10 years, but hey, I don't mind hearing the company seemingly backing the idea they can support it that length of time.

With better competition it likely means less "runaway" install bases, but it sure doesn't mean a console automatically can't live a long life. If anything it means we could have 3 "10 year plans" below our TVs right now if competition stays as good as it is. If anything I'd like it if MS said the same kind of thing when talking about the 360, but they probably know better, as people like yourself but on the opposite side of the fence would be running around up in arms on messageboards with awesome quotes like "but but but the xbox only lasted 4~5 years, that means it's factually impossible for the 360 to go 10 years". Yeah, okay.

In case you didn't notice, I get quite antsy [see what I did there?] when people don't see longevity in our consoles. But hey, that's just my view on it, I like to see platforms mature and hit absolute peaks before they die.

I consider all Sales staff useless

I agree with that with you there.

And antsy I think PS3 will last for atlest 7 years and after that either cause of compititors and/or pressure from gamers they have to come out with PS4. As much as I agree with ABoxer that we want to get our money worth, well sony has to think about there stockholders.

For 360 it's already 3 year and for PS3 2. I don't think MS will wait for sony till 2016 to release the new console. It would be same like this time next xbox will be released first and then PS4.

You're in for a surprise.

Is it still called a shortage if there's much less demand?

Considering the world's current situation I think it's safe to say everything will have much less of a demand. No need for subtle jabs.

I highly doubt we'll see a newer drive in this console within the next few years - if ever.

    • Maybe it's just my old-school soul talking, but I’ve always felt that games aren't 'real' games until they hit the PC. Leaving the PC community out at launch just doesn't sit right with me. That being said, I'm probably going to buy the PS5 just for the fun of trying it out.

    • Rockstar confirms Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders begin next week, unveils cover art by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The release date of Grand Theft Auto VI has moved quite a lot since its original announcement in 2023, but it finally looks like the game has found its final launch slot. Rockstar today had a new video upload on its YouTube channel, and while it wasn't a new trailer for the game, the company revealed two things. This was the pre-order kickoff date for Grand Theft Auto VI as well as the game's official cover art. The company revealed that June 25 is when fans of the series will be able to pre-order their copy of Grand Theft Auto VI. Pre-orders will be available both digitally and in retail stores. The newly unveiled cover art shows off the two new protagonists, as well as a few more characters that are probably vital to the campaign storyline. Shots of vehicles players can use like a light helicopter, motorcycle, sports car, and speed boat are also seen here, alongside a shot of a crocodile. "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," says Rockstar describing the campaign's protagonist duo. "But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive." Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not been confirmed yet, though it's expected by many to land after the console release. When asked about this, the Take-Two CEO says it considers the core audience for the Grand Theft Auto franchise to be on consoles.
