Speedup Vista to the Max !

So how do you know if it's a "pain in the ass" if you proclaim to have never even tried it?

And there is always silent mode which is a better alternative to turning it completely off.

Silent mode requires 3rd party apps and makes it useless. I've tried it and it just annoys me, hopefully it will be better in 7 but for now I don't need a message coming up asking me if I'm sure every time I try and do something. If your somewhat careful, have anti virus and a firewall then you don't need it. nothing has happened to my pc that UAC could have prevented since I disabled it about a year ago.

As for people who do use it, well after a while they tend to click ok without looking, also making it useless.

It quickly becomes a lot of clicks. I've never use it, and i probably never will since i dont see the point in it.. Its made by idiots for idiots.. Im not saying you guys are idiots but its seriously just something to make Vista more idiot-safe, which i don't need.

If you know what youre doing with your computer, you might as well disable it.

You've completely missed the point of UAC. It's not about what I do with my pc, it's about what it does for me. When I get a prompt, it's simply letting me know that application wants system access and whether I should allow it or not.

UAC definitely is NOT idiot-safe. YOU have the choice whether you want said application to have system access or not. Thus, potentially damaging your PC (if the application were to have malicious intentions).

Thanks..

Silent mode doesn't even require a 3rd party app. All you need to do is edit your Local Security Policy to change UAC to silently elevate. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/80938-us...lege-level.html

I don't get why people hate on this guy.. Most of these tweaks are just fine.

Well, sure if that's what you prefer.

I don't think anyone is hating on him, just pointing out that most of these "tweaks" are of the urban myth variety told through the generations in various forms since Win 3.1. Believe me, I'm very pro-tweak.

Yes and plagiarism is not good, just ask the New York Times.

The master control panel is for 32bit systems only. It will cause endless explorer.exe crashes if it is used on a 64 bit machine. Especially if it's placed on the desktop.

The processor boot thing has been debunked. The setting is there to reduce the number of processors used. It should already be using the maximum.

Disabling the last access time stamp doesn't give any significant performance increase.

There are some tips that don't have anything to do with speeding up performance. I may actually use some of those.

You didn't describe what some of those network settings do.

Edited by Ned

Assigning the boot sequence two or more processors can cause the boot loader to show up in an extremely slow pace (does for me on all of my machines).

The Enable Advanced Performance tip is a decent one since it does guarantee a performance boost when enabled. However, it requires you to remove the device from the Safely Remove Hardware everytime. If you ever forget to, you can double the risk of device failure or loss of data.

Good guide though. (Y)

This guide gave me a good chuckle (as did many of the responses.)

The only thing I hate about Vista loading up is that damn black screen where it just hangs for a few seconds with nothing but my mouse cursor.

Call it keeping up with the Joneses or "in-law sibling rivalry" but my brother in laws AMD 9950 BE boots up almost instantaneously compared to my Q6600. We both have 4GB ram, although he has DDR2 1066 and I have DDR2 800, I have a WD Black HD and he has a Velociraptor, both of us have very minimal start up programs. I can see where he has some performance increase over me but...Damn. His booting up almost instantaneously and mine taking what seems to be a minute and a few seconds from the time I hit the power button? Am I just being petty? >_> Or should I be booting up faster?

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • The limited imaginations and business acumen of non-dominant players is simply that: the abject lack of creative business acumen. Businesses often want to operate in a financially-rewarding marketplace (free market economics) and/or exit/cash-out at maximal financial recompense. Money is their incentive; regulations are both their obstacles and their tools; politics is their means of influencing the marketplace. Google, in this story's example, is crying that AWS and Azure are "too dominant" -- cuz Google Cloud is not printing as much money as Alphabet wants (although it is still dramatically more than they actually need). The EU DMA should truly follow-the-money and treat the EU as its own sovereign nation in order to protect European market players: Domestic entities are exempt from market-influence regulations until absolute monopoly is achieved; Foreign (non-EU/non-Euro) entities are all regulated via stricter DMA measures whereby regulated partnership with independent domestic entity becomes the only way for foreign entities to 'tip the scale' for favorable financial remunerations. Basically create a dual-track aligning with China's foreign investment models. In my eyes, this is the only way to properly protect the European marketplace beyond the current dot-com/ai-bubble/social-media crazes.
