March 2009 Desktops

Recommended Posts

Well seeing as I only completed this a few days ago, I'm not likely to change it for a while :)

Firstly the "splash page"

Basically, the magic doesn't happen until you click on the star-in-the-circle, just under the satellite, at which point the desktop changes to the following:

Each column is an RSS feed, being parsed through php. At the moment it's the BBC News headlines, the EmpireOnline.com headlines, and my recently played list on last.fm (I'll switch that one out for something else probably)

As for the icons towards the bottom of the desktop (L - R):

The "Home" icon resets the desktop to the satellite version. The Calendar icon opens a pop-up window with a simple (and i do mean simple - I'm using a .txt file to store the data, as opposed to a .sql db) calendar that's mostly a Todo list more than anything. The last two, the Photo Album, and Paperclip just open My Images, a folder on my HDD, and the paperclip opens OpenOffice.

So yep, that's my desktop - who said ActiveDesktop is dead and buried biggrin.gif

Oh - and as for the HiroProtagonist / Dark_ph0enix thing. I capped it for a thread over on Geekscape, where I use the username HiroProtagonist.

its not march yet!!!

When I post this thread, it IS March (starting with the Australian / New Zealand timezone change). It just isn't where you are.

@ dewaaz

How did you get your explorer icons like that?

Well it's not Avedesk... it's actually all possible using windows on its own :p

1. Rename drives the easy way, i.e. right clicking and selecting 'rename'

2. Change drive icons: go here - http://www.astahost.com/info.php/how-chang...bels_t7859.html

3. Removing drive letters (so only the name of the drive remains) - TweakUI. Go to My Computer, then Drive Letters. Click on 'Show network drive letters before the label' - there is a bug in TweakUI where they mixed up the functions, so make sure you click on this one even though it doesn't make sense.

Then reboot I guess and you're all done! Also, the icons I'm using are Tango icons, from the Tangerine part of Tango Patcher by vertigosity, also on these forums

    • On xiaomi hyperos there's also an option to disable google assistant. I've got everything disabled. Only thing I do have installed is a web wrapped for duck.ai which claims to let you use various AIs anonymously
    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
    • Looks like no official TBW rating, which should be a required listing in my opinion for sites like Amazon (hell, put it on the box too.)
