why is there a 2sec delay when opening tabs and IE8 itself?

its probably the "Java Plug-In's SSV Helper 2" plugin which delays the start-up of IE8.

Open IE8 -> Goto- Tools->Manage Add-ons-> higlight "Java Plug-In's SSV Helper 2" -> Disable it

Now IE8 starts within a second, no delays in opening tabs either.

wow that actually worked, tabs no longer have that delay for me now.

I found out that if I turn off Kaspersky Anti-virus (tech preview for Win 7) then new tabs open up really fast. Playing around with the settings it turns out it was Kaspersky's "Proactive Defense", I guess it scans every new iexplorer.exe process that is created with each tab. One of the tradeoffs for protection. I hope this gets improved soon.

I just might try AntiVir on Win 7 since I use it on Vista.

i used to have Java installed, however i do not now... so i have no idea what could be causing my delay, the Sun Java Deployment Toolkit was in my list, but considering i didn't even have Java installed, i removed that entry via the registery and assoicated dlls, grr...

i found the solution after someone mentioned it in another thread, and it works.

To remove all sites added by Spybot's Immunize:

1. open regedit

2. go to this key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap

3. delete the following sub-folders: Domains, EscDomains, Ranges

4. go to this key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\P3P

5. delete the sub-folder History

also, do the same for hk local machine, now IE8 opens instantly and yes, i have spybot installed, but even if you don't now (or use a program that does the same things) but had previously settings could still be in place, love that feeling when your PC is working the way you expect again :p

im fairly sure the problem has to do with that list loading 2x + during startup of the app, kind of like how adblock plus (with huge block lists) delays firefox load time, or not loading these lists the same way IE7 had

thanks for this - I had a similar problem which was preventing IE8 from displaying my homepage. Once I disabled the "Java Plug-In's SSV Helper 2", IE8 is now functioning normally.

Does any one know what this Java Plug-In's SSV Helper 2 is supposed to do and why it causes problems?

This solution worked for me too and now I have no lag in opening a new tab.

Had the issues since the beginning of IE7, and IE8 carries the issue. I can run this IE8 on Windows Vista that is a fresh install with no AV and can use no add-ons and still this issue of about one second or more for a new tab to appear. My computer is used as a server too, it should not have trouble with it physically. Now with Google Chrome, that opens tabs faster than any browser I have ever used. And Chrome has a task manager assuming the tabs are different processes too, so that can't be why IE8 can't load a tab quick enough.

I am having the same problem with IE8 on Windows 7. The thing is I have been using this Windows 7 install for over a week and did not have the problem, it was quite noticeable when it started. I don't mind the delay in the initial startup, but a delay in opening tabs is just way too annoying. I don't have Spybot or anything similar installed but I will have to check my IE8 addons to see if anything could be causing this. I used to install Firefox as a first step to browsing the internet on a windows OS, but I gave IE8 a chance with Windows 7 and I have been happy with it up until this started, so I am hoping I can find a fix.

    • Alien Isolation 2 will bring a new protagonist and setting, watch the reveal trailer here by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Only a few weeks ago, Sega and Creative Assembly dropped a teaser for a new Alien Isolation. Today at Summer Game Fest, Alien: Isolation 2 was officially announced with a new trailer while also confirming a whole lot of information about the setting of this survival horror project. Check out the reveal trailer above. Leaving behind the Sevastopol space station, the sequel will take players to a remote colony world. With a Xenomorph (or more) on the loose, players will be navigating both the surface of the weather-ravaged planet as well as "the claustrophobic confines of the Weyland-Yutani outpost of Kurosaki Station." Interestingly, Creative Assembly is leaving behind Amanda Ripley, the daughter of Alien's Ellen Ripley, as the protagonist too. While it hasn't confirmed a name yet, players will be taking the role of a new character for this new adventure. The setting is also being described as a new hunting ground for the Alien. This will have players improvising and developing new tools to aid in their survival and escape, all to avoid "cinema’s deadliest killer." "It has been over a decade since we created the original Alien: Isolation and I am so excited to show everyone the first glimpse of the sequel," says Al Hope, Creative Director at Creative Assembly. "Our dedicated Survival team at Creative Assembly has been working hard to create a new, evolved Isolation experience continuing the legacy of the Alien franchise, making the eponymous killer smarter, the environment harsher and the chance of survival slimmer." Promising the same deadly tension from the original from over a decade ago, Alien: Isolation 2 is in development for PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PlayStation 5. A release date has not been announced yet.

    • Hello, From looking at the screen shots in your motherboard's manual at https://endownload.colorful.cn/EnDownload/MotherBroard/2022/Intel 600/Manual/Intel 600 Series BIOS English/Intel 600 Series BIOS User Guide.pdf, you go to the ADVANCED option at the top of the BIOS (UEFI) menu, then select SECURITY in the list of options on the left.  From there  you can enable and set the Secure Boot mode.
