[Formula 1] Guess the Result: Race 1: Australia

Recommended Posts

Let's see if we can get this going.

The idea: Guess the race result for each Grand Prix of the 2009 season before a car is on track.

The rules: You have from Monday before each race until Thursday, 23:59 GMT before each race to guess the top 8 finishers. All guesses made after the deadline will be discarded. Points will be awarded as follows:

  • Driver correctly guessed - 1 point
  • Driver and position correctly guessed - 3 points
  • All 8 drivers correctly guessed, order incorrect - 10 bonus points
  • All 8 drivers guessed in the correct order - 20 bonus points

You are free to modify your guess until the Thursday, 23:59 GMT deadline.

Results will be collected in a separate thread. At the end of the season the winner gets as many virtual hobnobs as he has points. :p

My guess for Australia:

  1. Jenson Button - Brawn Mercedes
  2. Kimi R?ikk?nen - Ferrari
  3. Felipe Massa - Ferrari
  4. Timo Glock - Toyota
  5. Fernando Alonso - Renault
  6. Mark Webber - Red Bull Renault
  7. Sebastian Vettel - Red Bull Renault
  8. Lewis Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes

It'll be fun I know, but you'll have to do all the point tracking on your own. By the way you might want to link to the official season thread too.

  1. Barrichello - Brawn Mercedes
  2. Felipe Massa - Ferrari
  3. Timo Glock - Toyota
  4. Kimi R?ikk?nen - Ferrari
  5. Fernando Alonso - Renault
  6. Robert Kubica - BMW Sauber
  7. Jenson Button - Brawn Mercedes
  8. Lewis Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes
  9. Sebastian Vettel - Red Bull Renault
  10. Nico Rosberg - Williams Toyota

Ahh, why not. I suck at predictions but still, here they be:

  1. Rubens Barrichello, Brawn Mercedes.
  2. Felipe Massa - Ferrari.
  3. Fernando Alonso - Renault.
  4. Jenson Button - Brawn Mercedes.
  5. Kimi R?ikk?nen - Ferrari.
  6. Lewis Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes.
  7. Robert Kubica - BMW Sauber.
  8. Timo Glock - Toyota.

1. Felipe Massa - Ferrari

2. Rubens Barrichello - Brawn Mercedes

3. Kimi R?ikk?nen - Ferrari

4. Jenson Button - Brawn Mercedes

5. Fernando Alonso - Renault

6. Lewis Hamilton - McLaren Mercedes

7. Sebastian Vettel - Red Bull Renault

8. Mark Webber - Red Bull Renault

  • Driver correctly guessed - 1 point
  • Driver and position correctly guessed - 2 points
  • All 8 drivers correctly guessed, order incorrect - 5 bonus points
  • All 8 drivers guessed in the correct order - 10 bonus points

I just think we need to change the point system (unintentional irony). More points are needed to reflect on the probability of getting the order correct.

  • Driver correctly guessed - 1 point
  • Driver and position correctly guessed - 3 points
  • All 8 drivers correctly guessed, order incorrect - 10 bonus points
  • All 8 drivers guessed in the correct order - 20 bonus points

Thanks for the suggestion. First post edited accordingly.

+Mephistopheles : How can you not even have Barrichello in your top 8?

It's the first race of the season. Technical gremlins are likely to hit. And Mr Barichello has often been the driver to be hit by technical gremlins (think back to his time at Ferrari).

I didn't include either of the BMW Saubers in my top 8 for the same reason.

i read today, that m.schumacher will be with ferrari in australia, which means a bad weekend and a certain dnf for raikkonen. :p

my guess for the race result is:

1. felipe massa - ferrari

2. rubens barrichello - brawn gp

3. jarno trulli - toyota

4. heiki kovalainen - mclaren

5. robert kubica - bmw

6. nelson piquet jr. - renault

7. lewis hamilton - mclaren

8. jenson button - brawn gp

I think Brawn are going to dominate, probably scoring a 1-2. Honestly I wouldn't like to guess the rest of the order though, testing times have been all over the chart, but I feel, sadly, that McLaren are gonna be struggling in the back end of the points, and that is if they have a problem free weekend

Here are the results of this round:

  1. Shibby - 9 points
  2. mclaren2 - 8 points
  3. Mephistopheles - 6 points
  4. Martyn - 6 points
  5. HiroProtagonist1984 - 5 points
  6. Popcorned1 - 5 points
  7. sundayx - 5 points
  8. .mcman - 4 points
  9. Fourjays - 3 points
  10. brentaal - 3 points

Congratulations to Shibby. The next round of guesses starts tomorrow.

Thank you for playing.

  6. Sebastian Vettel - Red Bull Renault

I believe I have 6 points. :p

No, 5 points. One more because of me making a typo in the results list. The point for Rosberg doesn't count since only the top 8 are counted - see first post.

hmm looks like the results have to be changed :(

trulli got DQ and hami got p3 now.

Indeed. Revised results:

  1. Mephistopheles - 10 points
  2. Shibby - 9 points
  3. Martyn - 8 points
  4. sundayx - 7 points
  5. Popcorned1 - 7 points
  6. HiroProtagonist1984 - 5 points
  7. mclaren2 - 5 points
  8. Fourjays - 3 points
  9. brentaal - 3 points
  10. .mcman - 2 points

Next time I'm going to wait for several hours after the race to compile the results...

    • LOL. Can't even quote and edit a comment correctly. Figures you're a Linux user.
    • I have disabled it, but the app is still taking space. I have a Mac and it is only possible to disable Ai on that, but I think that bit does get rid of the AI components after a while. What we are told is that we agree to all this when we use the devices as it is in the end user agreements, their software, they can do what they like. I doubt that any bill will happen in the U.S, the government there are in league with big tech firms. The E.U maybe, they seem to have some guts when it comes to tech companies. The U.K is not in the E.U, but some things still affect us. Our government is as gutless when it comes to tech companies as the U.s government.
