Program that can Capture video from URL

Question

Is there a program that can capture video from a URL. What I am wanting to do; I don't know if it's legal or not, but I want to capture music videos from the internet. I had a program that did it before, but I don't remeber it's name. Does anyone know of a program that can do this. BTW I have a 56K connection and I want to record these videos at high bandwidths, like 300K. I know it will take a while, but I'll wait, but the main thing I would like to know is, if there is a program that can do this??? Thanks for the help in advance.

there are a few tools that try to do this. streambox vcr does real and windows media streams, (i've never used it)

another tool, called asxrecorder will save wma/wmv/asf files stored in asx playlists. but i don't think it works with the new version of windows media server.

what i do is that i first find the url of the movie, and then i write a simple html code:

<html>
<body>
<a href="url of movie">movie</a>
</body>
</html>

in the place of "url of movie", i juss put the url of the movie and then i just save in html and open it in IE, and right click on the link and click save target as. and that just saves it to my hard-drive!

if u have any problems with this method, will be glad to help.

thats not going to happen. its still going to feed to u at 56k if that. when u capture it, it will look no better (it will look worse) than what u r looking at. u would just be wasteing space in your encodeing.

ok i see what u r trying to do. and it will not work. u want to SAVE the streaming file without really streaming it. Nope, not going to happen. u MUST stream those files. u 'cant save target as' and get the full video. u will get the link to the stream. u can stream it and record whats on your screen though

Ok streambox vcr does capture this, so don't say you can't, I have done it. As far as getting the URL to the file, it will depend on how the web designer set it up. Maybe he has it running through a php or perl script, so you can't just look at the source. It is still very easily beaten, you can PM on MSN messenger from the MSN link under this post if you need help getting the real URL, I am about 99% sure I can do it. You can get Streambox VCR from

if u need in help in gettin the url, i can help you to. i'll go over on launch and see if i can find the url of a music video.

i dont really think finding the URL is his problem. his problem was u was looking for a url that would let him download the full video, not stream it. still u can capture what is on the screen. there r many programs that do this. u just start the streaming video and select the area of the screen in which the video is playing, it will record the video

I don't want the video to be all blurry though.

exactly as he said. so maybe if people contribute and see if they could find urls, we could see if the method i suggested before worx or not, if that doesnt we can try to find another solution.

but really in the end, its all upto tadxp on what he wants to do.

i found this on stream box vcr.

NOTE!This program is no longer supported by the author. Streambox had legal difficulties with RealNetworks Inc. and therefor this program is illegal to use in the United States -- U.S. users should not download this program!.
