iPhone OS 3.0 PREVIEW

Recommended Posts

I'm hearing may people say "oh I'm gonna jail break 3.0 when it comes out!!!" First off why? No one knows the entire feature list of 3.0. We only got a preview, theres more to come. There might not be a reason to jail break this time around, other then themes, and even the themes arnt thaty great,

My Jail break reason = Freedom.

^ OMG, Very VERY NICE. Now thats my reason. And Chris I understand exactly what you mean, but im pretty sure most can tell you, Apple is not ready to allow graphical customization. Thats why I would Jailbreak, also benefits like apps that you cant find on the app store. Theres a few I breifly saw on a friends phone that the app store doesnt have. Like a app that made it so his DVR was connected to his phone thru IP. Now, he could view any timers and create new ones and etc. I found that cool becuase I have a DVR in my room and would love to record stuff on the fly that I forget about.

Also, the above post makes me want to jailbreak for sure no questions asked.

So, Ji@nBing if you are kind enough to let me know theme, dock, etc. Whatever was used to create your iPhone layout like that, I will be greateful. I just want to adopt that workspace, ill probably end up finding another theme if its possible but those icons and the mac like desktop on the right side, perfect. Something I love about macs and on the iPhone that would be awesome. And press the Apps icon to get all your icons is a plus. Im also guessing the Apps screen looks nice.

Hey. Most of the icons I used are from the Oxygen icon theme. Just google "oxygen refit" and you'll find them. The folder icons are Maji SE. You can have everything moved over to the right like that by using the app "iblank" available on Cydia. You can make folders using "categories", also available on Cydia. I don't remember where I got the dock from, I think it was some Leopard theme.

Hope that helps.

Of course they won't work yet. A BETA is known to be unstable and its code could be changed in the future. Saurik would be stupid updating Cydia now as changes in the code could disable the application. Those applications ( Cydia, OpenSSH, ... ) will work once the software/firmware is released.

yeh i didnt complain at all just wanted to share what i learned :) i do understand concept of beta ;)

ps: oh and i meant that i went back to 2.2.1 ofc.

I hope they allow the changing of the sms sounds without having Jailbreaking being the only option to be able to do this.

Agreed. I've never seen a phone limit what sounds you can have for text messages, yet many of the useless ringtones would go good for sms alerts.

The only one that's decent is "electronic", and thats because its the only one I can hear when I'm out.

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
