If it is used in dog's medicine then the dosage is probably more of a worry.

When my cat was ill we had to give him valium .. but a quarter of a human sized pill.

The best thing to do is take him to a vet immediately. Do not delay by trying to find out if it's harmful. A vet can tell you and do something about it.

Well i'm saying it's urgent because its 11pm and the vets are closed and we don't have a vet around here, so it'd mean calling one an hour away which means it wouldnt come till 12 and if its for nothing then its a hefty price.

I'm keeping an eye on it though, aunties gone to bed - im feeling its heartbeat and we tried to make it sick it up - but it didnt stupid ganet of a dog :p

Your dog eats something that could potentially kill it or do serious damage and the first thing you do is ask an internet forum?

Call a vet, it might be expensive but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Let's see...

Signs of Toxicity/Overdose

May see vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, constricting of the pupils, or a distended (enlarged) stomach.

If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your pet, consult your veterinarian immediately.

It doesn't hurt to call the vet and ask him though, and if he says it's serious, then at lest it only takes him an hour to get there. instead of an hour +all the time it took you to wait for the dog to get sick enough for it to be to late for the vet to do anything anyway. the vet isn't going to travel an hour each way if it's not serious just so he can charge you. And if it is serious, he'll most likely call the home number of a vet closer to you anyway.

It'd have to be a hell of a lot of chocolate though. One tablet will not kill it.

depends on the tablet.

and drugs are actually quite dangerous to dugs, like alcohol, since they can't effectively clear the toxins from their blood as well

a d also remember, dogs are small, humans are big. it was a human pill.

I don't think a 10mg anxiety tablet will do much damage. Seriously. Worst case scenario the dog will become a little skits.

THe dog is already skitz :p, anyway I rang the vet up and told her the situation, she rang back and said it should be okay. About 2 minutes later I found a half dissolved tablet on the floor.

So it's all okay, the dog it turns out, didnt like the pill :p So it was all a placebo.

Thanks guys, believe it or not, I did check what the pill was before hand and I thought its not too bad so I left it, but then i thought the dog was really dizzy so I started to get worried and I wanted to check with you guys before I wake up the aunt, but I had to wake her in the end anyway :p

Hey,

My aunties puppy has eaten a Buspirone tablet 10mg that my aunty dropped on the floor, ate it in seconds of it being dropped.

Is it dangerous can it kill the dog? I googled it and it seems buspirone is used in dogs medicine sometimes but I need to check.

Thanks

why post here and wait a while for an answer and not take the dog some place to get looked at ASAP?

I like how there are a few decent replies among the bunch. It's quite annoying to see the constant rain of replies "OMG TECH FORUM!!1" and whatnot, so what? They won't hand out warnings for talking about other subjects in the General Discussion area and there are actually people out there behind the monitors with experience in areas other than hardware, tech support and web development. We even have a registered nurse, part of the staff nonetheless - He has given some great responses from what I've seen.

So why don't people just calm down?

And I could relate to his situation, I had a pet that swallowed something it shouldn't a long time ago - We don't have a vet within a 100 miles and none of them are open in the middle of the night - So what the hell are you supposed to do. We just called some family with medical background and we were fortunate enough to run into a problem they had dealings with before, despite not being vets.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • I did that to a work colleague many years ago when he left it logged in. Unfortunately I was out of the office the next day, and even the IT department was stumped lol. Got a bit of a bollocking when I got back into the office, but, by god, it was worth it.
