booboo
Hey, My aunties puppy has eaten a Buspirone tablet 10mg that my aunty dropped on the floor, ate it in seconds of it being dropped. Is it dangerous can it kill the dog? I googled it and it seems buspirone is used in dogs medicine sometimes but I need to check. Thanks Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/756366-puppy-eaten-buspirone-urgent/ Share on other sites
_bobcat_ Veteran Posted April 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2009 If it is used in dog's medicine then the dosage is probably more of a worry. When my cat was ill we had to give him valium .. but a quarter of a human sized pill. The best thing to do is take him to a vet immediately. Do not delay by trying to find out if it's harmful. A vet can tell you and do something about it. Crackler
Sometimes I wonder why people come to Neowin for answers with emergencies. Take the puppy to the vet! :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/756366-puppy-eaten-buspirone-urgent/#findComment-590815832 Share on other sites
MPH
According to this site Buspirone(available in 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg) is used in veterinary too. I guess it is not dangeruous, but on the other hand you didn't tell us how big your puppy is. However, I suggest you to call the vet immediatly. _bobcat_ Veteran Posted April 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2009 Even if it's used as a medicine it can be dangerous. Humans + too much paracetamol isn't pretty. JohnMarsten
As long as your dog doesn't have an allergic reaction to it he will be fine, and if he does it will be too late if you sit at home, it's best you get to the vet immediately to find out if that is happening. +Nik Louch Subscriber² Posted April 6, 2009 Subscriber² Share Posted April 6, 2009 URGENT? As in "It's so urgent that I will post my pet related emergency on a tecchie site"? Whoah - that is urgent! LOL But no - it's a medicine used by vets and in quite a low dosage. booboo
Well i'm saying it's urgent because its 11pm and the vets are closed and we don't have a vet around here, so it'd mean calling one an hour away which means it wouldnt come till 12 and if its for nothing then its a hefty price. I'm keeping an eye on it though, aunties gone to bed - im feeling its heartbeat and we tried to make it sick it up - but it didnt stupid ganet of a dog :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/756366-puppy-eaten-buspirone-urgent/#findComment-590815860 Share on other sites
DrCheese
Your dog eats something that could potentially kill it or do serious damage and the first thing you do is ask an internet forum? Call a vet, it might be expensive but it's better to be safe than sorry. Let's see... Signs of Toxicity/OverdoseMay see vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, constricting of the pupils, or a distended (enlarged) stomach. If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your pet, consult your veterinarian immediately. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Rx_Info_Shee...x_buspirone.pdf Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/756366-puppy-eaten-buspirone-urgent/#findComment-590815862 Share on other sites
TheRealDave
Dogs have far stronger stomachs, bodies and immune systems to ourselves. Don't worry about it. The dog will be fine. And if it is serious, he'll most likely call the home number of a vet closer to you anyway. TheRealDave
Considering that eating chocolate can kill a dog, I'd disagree :p It'd have to be a hell of a lot of chocolate though. One tablet will not kill it. Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/756366-puppy-eaten-buspirone-urgent/#findComment-590815906 Share on other sites
HawkMan
It'd have to be a hell of a lot of chocolate though. One tablet will not kill it. depends on the tablet. and drugs are actually quite dangerous to dugs, like alcohol, since they can't effectively clear the toxins from their blood as well a d also remember, dogs are small, humans are big. it was a human pill. _bobcat_ Veteran Posted April 6, 2009 Veteran Share Posted April 6, 2009 If it's so expensive you might not be able to pay, I understand your reluctance. If the dog dies, will you wish you had paid up? Does your aunty not know about this? booboo
THe dog is already skitz :p, anyway I rang the vet up and told her the situation, she rang back and said it should be okay. About 2 minutes later I found a half dissolved tablet on the floor. So it's all okay, the dog it turns out, didnt like the pill :p So it was all a placebo. Thanks guys, believe it or not, I did check what the pill was before hand and I thought its not too bad so I left it, but then i thought the dog was really dizzy so I started to get worried and I wanted to check with you guys before I wake up the aunt, but I had to wake her in the end anyway :p Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/756366-puppy-eaten-buspirone-urgent/#findComment-590815992 Share on other sites

Sethos
I like how there are a few decent replies among the bunch. It's quite annoying to see the constant rain of replies "OMG TECH FORUM!!1" and whatnot, so what? They won't hand out warnings for talking about other subjects in the General Discussion area and there are actually people out there behind the monitors with experience in areas other than hardware, tech support and web development. We even have a registered nurse, part of the staff nonetheless - He has given some great responses from what I've seen. So why don't people just calm down? And I could relate to his situation, I had a pet that swallowed something it shouldn't a long time ago - We don't have a vet within a 100 miles and none of them are open in the middle of the night - So what the hell are you supposed to do. We just called some family with medical background and we were fortunate enough to run into a problem they had dealings with before, despite not being vets.
