Website Critique Wanted - Convert any file into a web page

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am making a website that allows anybody to convert any file into a web site.

At the moment it supports conversion of following formats doc, ppt, pdf, odp, ogv, odt, rtf, txt, csv, flv, mp3, png, gif, jpg, bmp, xcf, ico, ttf, swf, php, c, java, perl, python, xml, tar and zip files into a web page. (If you want me to add any other particular file format please let me know )

Link: http://file2.ws :D

I am wondering what are your first impressions? How can I improve the service? How can I get people to know about the website?

I am not sure if this is in the right section of the site - if possible can it be moved? Thanks :)

I'm not sure what it means by "convert any file into a web page", what happens when I upload a mp3?

Just tested it with an .MP3 file.

It will convert the MP3 into a web page, similar to how YouTube converts a video into a web page. (File2.ws also converts video formats too.)

That is because any file you create and upload will be publicly available on the website through a URL, and as it converts the documents into different file formats the data may be modified so I need to let others know that their uploaded content may be slightly different. If that makes sense?

Thanks for your questions, keep them coming. :)

Hmm, i think what he means by converting it is hosts it. All it does is upload the file this his server and give it a unique URL. Good hosting site if that's what ur asking.

so how are u going to avoid copyright infringement?
We take copyright infringement very seriously, files can be reported by clicking the "Report page" link at the bottom of the page where we can then investigate the reasons and remove the files. The web site is designed for people to share files have have created and developed by themselves - it is NOT designed to share other peoples work.

Possible bugs:

Some people have reported that the file conversion into a web page has not worked, this may have been that the conversion queue was down, if this occurs in the future please let us know.

Example of conversion:

For example when I uploaded a pdf file, the website converted it into this complete web page: http://file2.ws/conversion3 :)

We have also added support for more file formats in the past week. :)

Any further feedback whether positive or negative is greatly appreciated.
