hey windows x,

got to say, great work here. I love it.

Can i just ask you a few questions though, in your image that you posted on the first page your desktop seems like its a really high resolution and all your fonts look clean, mine appear jaggy.

Also, how did you get your clock to appear like it does? Mine just remains normal as it was before i installed the pack. Do i have to install a different toolbar or something?

I hope you can help.

cheers

That's cleartype. Click Effects in Display Appearance and change font smoothing to cleartype. For clock, that's Tile mode. Choose SideBar during transformation or run it again and activate SideBar.

Hello,

I just installed Longhorn Pack 6.0 but unfortunatelly my pc crashed after that.

The same thing happened when I installed Longhorn Pack 4.0 on the same PC a while ago, I thought Longhorn Pack 6.0 had fixed my past issues but I guess I was wrong.

I have Windows XP Pro on a 3.2GHZ 1GB Ram 8300 DELL PC. :D

This is what happens:

1. Downloaded Longhorn Pack 6.0

2. Installed Transformation Pack 6.0 with default options.

3. Followed instructions and restarted PC.

4. PC does not boot - it stays on with a black screen.

5. I tried "fixboot" from Original Windows XP Pro CD but did not work. See step 4.

Fortunatelly, I have Drive Image to restore my system but is there any reason why this may happen? and does anyone know of any "complications" while installing Longhorn Pack 6.0?

Note: In the past I have installed Longhorn Pack 4.0 on less powerful Pc's without problems.

Thank you.

Andy

Please make sure you're using 6.0 (Re-Release) because first 6.0 will cause normal XP without any SP problems.

When can we expect the next version? Rough estimates of course

I'm planning about new things in 7.0 atm. Here're what in my mind now.

-Slip-Streaming function (Removed because not really worth than putting setup package in CD)

-Add/Remove Programs function (So ppl don't need to keep that huge file forever)

-Something new (What is it? I want to know too)

ok, i just tried installing the transformation pack (6 re-release) on a fresh install of XP. the only thing i installed was sp1a and the KB update that you recomended. the transformation appeared to work fine, but when it reboots it just sits at a black screen.

i also had this problem when i previously tried using 6.0, but i also had some sp2 updates, so i thought that might have been the problem.

but now that it doesn;t work with a fresh install, what am i doing wrong here

thanks

I'm sorry, I'm not one to bash other people's work, but how you can release this on the net with a clear conscience is absolutely beyond me. It seems that this hoses most people's XP installations, as it did mine (system restore did not help, only installing FlyaKite - the Apple transformation pack, which I assumed would modify the same files but properly - saved my system).

It's a shame because the VS is gorgeous. But dude, do some testing or at least call it what it is - BETA software that's bound to **** your computer up.

Yep but most ppl I know tested and found no problems. I wonder it could happened because of replacing boot screen in some case that make system crash. If you aren't sure about this, just choose manual mode and delete Longhorn Transformation Pack Files folder.

i tried installing it again, this time without replacing the boot screens. restarted the computer and it booted into windows. However, The login/logoff screen has changed, but nothing else.

No visual themes, fonts, icons, nothing but the login/logoff screens. i tried installing on manual mode, and the batch program gave "file not found" errors about five times and still said it finished sucessfully.

i have sp1a and the patch you suggested. i am unsure if my windows is build 2600 like you suggest, and how do i get it to that build? is that the problem? i really want to use this......

I mean you must change certain things about the boot and logon into the default files of XP.

please be more precise... all I did was install the damn thing and it made the whole system go fubar. I didnt do the bootscreen.. I thought its all automatic, what do you have to change?

    • Yeah, this is absolutely nothing new and EA have done it before. Burnout Paradise, released in 2008, had dynamic advertising billboards that were updated via the internet and targeted people based on location and what EA knew about them from their profile. It was particularly notable for the fact that the Obama presidential campaign ran ads in the game, in an attempt to reach a younger audience who didn't watch broadcast TV any more. It was by no means the first though. Battlefield 2142 from 2006 had the same thing. In fact, Neowin wrote a story about it back then. https://www.neowin.net/news/ba...-in-game-ads-clarification/
    • This is obviously aimed at the education where Apple has lost so much ground to Chromebooks in the last few years, but unless they come up with a comparable management system for education why would anyone switch back?
    • Here's how we arrived at that claim: Note that this is just Play Store downloads. The app is also available on the Galaxy App Store
    • Google Play states the app had more than 50 million downloads. What other metric do you suggest should be used?
    • MSN defined our generation in some ways, kind of like Snapchat and TikTok have done for future generations. I have great memories of the MSN era in the late 90s / early 2000s. In the UK everyone seemed to come home from School and go on MSN for the evening. We didn't really have mobile phones then, so other than going and knocking on your friends door it was a totally new way of interacting with people. I also loved how I could talk to people I’d met playing online games from around the world. Inviting people to NetMeeting and messing about with the shared white board and webcams was pretty fun, even if webcams only ran at a couple of fps over dial-up. All the random things you could do with MsgPlus! were really fun - I suspect that made a few people jump with /shello randomly blasting Mr Hankey out their speakers! Maybe I’m just nostalgic, however I do feel the internet and computers were more fun back then.
