Cost of web design

Question

I've designed a couple websites for some friends in exchange for favors but now one of them showed it to someone that wants a website for his business. He wants me to do it for him, but I have no idea how much to charge for something like this. Is it hourly based or what? I'm not sure yet how complicated he wants it but he has seen my other sites.

Anyways, any ideas?

you cant go by that. When you do that personal feelings get involved. It all boils down to how much your time and energy is worth. Remember, if this is "side" work, then you are trading your free time in for website work. If you have tons of free time available to you (college student for example), then your hourly wage may be lower. If you are busy like me, then you may want to charge more to make it worthwhile.

Not telling you what to do, I just know exactly what your delema is. I used to do prorated pay scales, and the whole "pay me what I'm worth thing" because I felt bad taking money. When I started demanding certain prices, then my work actually picked up, as people take you more seriously when they can see the pricing up front.

Just a thought.

Exactly my thought! I am a student in high school and I don't have alot of time because I am only a freshmen so I really don't have alot of time... I did http://www.mssvending.com/ for only $40 dollars now that I know how much time and effort and how good it was going to look I wish that I aksed for more money if you know what I mean.... Look at that site.. What do you think I should of gotten paid for it.

It takes too long to load, if you have a LOADING... type of message, it would inform the user that something is actually happening and not to close the browser. I am on a T1, and I waited 10-15 seconds, and was moving my mouse to the X to close it before it flashed up.

The flash itself is great! The blue spinning globe doesnt make any sense when you mouse over the menus. It bounces around with no purpose.
