Ok I have a home server that I want to use IIS. I am in school and one of my projects is to make a successful web server with a front page.

Problem 1: I have a Dynamic IP

Solution 1: No-IP DNS Hosting

Problem 2: I have to have my own address, not a user.damnserver.com, or jackass.freecrap.com

Solution 2: I purchased a domain name from yahoo.com

Problem 3: How do I make my yahoo domain name talk to my dynamic IP? or How do I connect the << spam >> stuff and the yahoo stuff together?

Solution 3: Is where you guys come in! Please help me I have 8 days left to finish!

You need to change your NS records. Have the domain name look at the No-IP name servers for your IP info rather than Yahoo's name servers.

This one may be a little more helpful, since you probably don't have a small-business domain name through Yahoo: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/inde...p/t-241661.html

Signup to http://www.zoneedit.com/

Setup a new zone - Yourdomain.com or whatever

Goto your Domain name controls on Yahoo and delegate control to Zoneedits nameservers.

Then do the following:

How do I get started?

- sign up for a free DNS account (see our regular FAQ)

- add your domain name to our system

- add the current IP Address (A) record of your machine to your ZoneEdit control panel

- download one of the dynamic dns clients that supports zoneedit

- configure the client you downloaded to update zoneedit (hint: Setting the "zones" is usually the only parameter necessary)

See :- http://www.zoneedit.com/doc/dynamic.html? for more details

Make sure your portforwarding is configured on your router..

He already has the dynamic dns account with NO-IP.

Thank you for stating the obvious but I must say: And?

Zoneedit is free and provides what he wants to do?

How would I know? I used to use it for the same reason (I had a dynamic IP and wanted to use my own domain years back)

In 2007 I switched to a static and the need became redundant for dynamic ip support but ZoneEdit still handles my DNS hosting..

Because its free, fast and reliable.

Besides I dont know the level of control that No-IP gives you over your own domain but Zoneedit gives full control to you and for free.

He asked how to do it, I gave him the instructions..

WOW thanks for all the help guys! I'm going to try the zonedit thing. No-IP does not give me that many options. Admirals Idea was great but im not allowed to use redirection. Also the changing the nameservers, What would I change them to? Is that something no-ip would have?

FAQ Explains how it works:

How does the dynamic ip program work?

The program:

- detects an ip change on your computer

- hits a web page http://dynamic.zoneedit.com/auth/dynamic.h...zone2.com...etc.

- the dynamic.html page detects the IP that the request came in on and updates the zone(s)

- the dynamic.html page also lowers the TTL for the zone(s) so that updates propagate quickly

You could setup a batch file/cronjob/scheduled task to run every so often.. inefficient way of doing it but seamless :p

NO-IP works great also, very little needed to get it to work. With dynamic addresses assigned by your ISP, just download the NO-IP client program and install it on your server (I have a DLink router that has it built in). Once setup on your server it will priodically contact NO-IP and update it on where your computer can be found. That way the outside world can connect to you server at pretty much all times (except for those rare times that your ISP changes your DNS and NO-IP's client hasn't updated it yet). I have been using it for 2 years now and it works great for my company's website and remote access.
