[Cancelled] Heroes Season 4 (Volume 5 : Redemption)

A statement regarding ?Heroes? cancellation from creator Tim Kring ...

Regarding NBC?s decision not to renew the international hit ?Heroes? for a fifth season, creator and executive producer, and award winning transmedia storyteller, Tim Kring commented: ?I want to first extend my deepest gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to the legion of enthusiastic fans who have watched ?Heroes? on TV, online, DVR, DVD and mobile over the last four seasons.

Every week more than 45 million TV viewers around the world, as well as millions of social and digital media-based fans, have made ?Heroes? one of the five most-watched shows across traditional and digital media screens in the history of television.

For NBC, I certainly understand the challenge of creating a business model around a show which arrived precisely as the audience was finding new ways to watch traditional content on multiple screens.

I personally have had 12 great years with my friends at NBC, and with ?Heroes,? they provided me a rare opportunity to put a message of hope, interconnectivity and global consciousness into the world. For that I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the ?Heroes? universe alive for its fans.?

and it was going to be a "game changer" and would have brought Heroes to the "top" of the ratings again. The stories were so good they would have cured cancer for everyone watching.

maaan, nbc screwed the pooch big time. Plenty would watch just for the cure to cancer!

Heroes ended its season last February with the indestructible Claire (Hayden Panettiere) throwing herself from the top of a Ferris wheel in front of the media, revealing her superpower to the world. Should the axed series return with a wrap-up miniseries?that's creator Tim Kring's hope, and he says he's meeting with NBC this month to discuss it ? the plot will skip ahead a year or so to see the effect of Claire's revelation.

"There will be a huge cultural and social change in the world," says Kring. "Some [of our characters] will be hiding, some struggling, some basking in the glory."

Claire, who desperately wanted a normal life, will become a reluctant spokesperson for the abnormals. Sylar (Zachary Quinto) will again struggle with his dark side. And Adrian Pasdar will likely return, though not as Nathan, who died.

Kring is confident he can lure back his entire cast if he gets a green light. (NBC refused to comment.)

"I've spoken with everyone," says Kring. "They're all eager to participate."

That would be sweet.

Hopefully it will be like the dark future we saw twice, once in the first series, and again in the third series... Peter gets his scar, etc :D

But Pasdar returning- how?

God please not another Ali Larter omg I have a million identical people just like me!!1111! moment...

I thought Heroes had a lot of potential.

It really sucked that the cheerleader made such an overwhelming decision...

and then they cancelled the show. Also, 45 million viewers? And the show was

a failure? I fail to see it. Something is amiss.

I'd love to see a Heroes movie- large scale awesomeness.

I read some rumblings on twitter earlier from one of the producers who said they will make sylar evil again...not sure if that was just to cause attention :p

They've ruined his character, enough said.

It won't be there.

If anything it would appear sometime mid season as like a 4 episode 'wrap up'. But thats not going to happen either. The show is dead.

I can still hope it will. It's not like there wasn't a large enough fan base. A 4 episode wrap up would do just fine.

Tim Kring talks 'Heroes' axe

When you were finishing up season four of Heroes, how much did you genuinely think it would also be a series finale?

"We really didn't know at all what the fate of the show was. In American television, you usually don't know if you're going to be picked up for another season. Unless you are an absolute smash-hit, which happens so rarely, most shows exist on the bubble all the time. I very much expected to be picked up for a fifth season. I thought it made tremendous sense for the network, both financially and creatively, so I was very surprised by the decision."

When and how did you hear that NBC had cancelled the show?

"We have the upfronts here every May, where the networks roll out their schedules for the year. It's almost always the week or so before that when all the big decisions are made. So during that week, I got the call from the network and heard their decision. As I said, I didn't expect it."

There have been rumours of a wrap-up movie. What's the latest with that?

"Unfortunately, there's no more news on it. But it looks like we're really going to start talking about it now. The summer months in television are always about preparing for the Fall launch of all the new shows, so I totally understand why there hasn't been a lot of discussion [until now]. Once the Fall season is launched, I fully believe that this discussion will get reignited in a very big way."

Looking back at the four seasons, which storylines were you most proud of?

"I was very committed to the idea of how the characters were connected to one another. So for me, the first season, where we didn't know how all the characters connected up, was in some ways the most exciting part of the storytelling. But I also felt that the fourth season was really strong."

There was some speculation that if Heroes came back for a fifth season, it might be 'rebooted' with an entirely new cast. Was that a serious possibility?

"Not really. I think some of that came from certain statements that I had made. In a way, the most exciting aspect of the show is the discovery of these powers and how the characters deal with them. Once the characters are fully in command of their powers, the big questions of the show become plot questions rather than character questions. The way around that for me was to repopulate the show with new people. But I think that was a bit of a naive goal, because the network uses the stars of a hit show to promote itself, which makes it difficult to recast. And obviously if the audience sees too many new faces, they start to long for the ones they fell in love with before. It's a complicated dance, so we decided to stay with the core original cast."

Do you think the writers' strike was ultimately to blame for the show's demise?

"No, I don't want to blame it on that. I think the paradigm has shifted in how people are consuming content and Heroes is very much at the forefront of that. Ironically while the traditional ratings fell, Heroes was the number one downloaded show in the world. It was above other big shows like Lost. So clearly there was a huge appetite for this show. This very passionate and large audience just didn't fit within the traditional mode."

NBC is not moving forward with the TV movie

Entertainment Weekly has learned that NBC is not moving forward with a movie that would wrap up "Heroes." There was some talk about the possibity of a TV movie after the network cancelled the show last May.

In June, Kring told EW that "the Heroes brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise. It wasn?t about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening. We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways."

We'll let you know if the story will be continued in some other way.

Not the actors' faults, that's for damn sure. I thought they did pretty well.

Hell, I'd love to see a Hiro spin-off; his quest to become a hero was interesting.

But... he became a hero, several times if I'm not mistaken

But... he became a hero, several times if I'm not mistaken

I'm still confuzlled how he got his powers back this last time lol

Man they really screwed up such a great premise and first season didn't they? To bad NBC won't move forward with the tv movie. Maybe in a couple of years they might reconsider or do something else. Needless to say novels and comics should keep the universe of Heroes alive for a while. :|

I dont think the writers strike was to blame anyway. I mean, unlike most shows, heroes had actually planned the kaito saga to end where it ended right? So they were actually able to end season 2 gracefully instead of abruptly or in a rushed way like most shows. Yet they royally screwed up the rest.

    • I must admit, this is probably the only game at the moment where I can see that $80 price point being ok. The issue will be when other developers think they can get away with it with half of the work.
    • Google Wallet expands TSA PreCheck Touchless ID access to more travellers by Fiza Ali Google has announced that Google Wallet is becoming the first digital wallet to integrate with TSA PreCheck Touchless ID. It is a programme that lets eligible travellers move through participating airport security checkpoints using facial recognition instead of showing a physical ID or boarding pass. While the TSA PreCheck Touchless ID programme has been available for some time, using it hasn't always been straightforward. The programme currently operates at 65 airports across the US, but participation has largely depended on flying with a limited number of airlines. Travellers also had to upload passport information separately through participating carriers. Now, the tech giant's new integration is designed to remove some of those extra steps. With the update rolling out in the coming weeks, travellers with TSA PreCheck membership will be able to enrol in Touchless ID through Google Wallet and use the service with any of the 100 airlines participating in the programme. Rather than repeatedly submitting identification details, users can store a digital ID in Google Wallet and use it to streamline future trips. Setting up the feature is relatively straightforward as well. The process starts with users creating a digital ID in Google Wallet using their passport information. After checking in for a flight and saving a boarding pass to the app, eligible travellers will see a "Get started" option that directs them to the TSA enrolment process. Once users choose to share their ID pass and boarding pass information with the TSA for a specific trip, the agency will verify the enrolment. If approved, a TSA PreCheck Touchless ID indicator will appear on the boarding pass stored in Google Wallet, signalling that the traveller can use designated express Touchless ID lanes at participating airports. As privacy and security are likely to be key considerations for many travellers, Google says users must explicitly opt in before any information is shared with the TSA, and authentication is required through a device PIN, pattern, or biometric verification. The company also notes that digital IDs stored in Google Wallet remain encrypted and are kept on the user's device. For frequent flyers who already use TSA PreCheck, the new integration could remove a few more steps from the airport security process, making travel slightly faster and a little less cumbersome.
