Hi all!

Okay, I know icon Workshop can convert PNGs to ICOs, but what if i have 1400 ICOs that i want converting - it'll take me forever!

I recently downloaded Gant 3 and there is a nice little program included that is simply a Batch file to convert them.

However, upon running it, it deleted all the PNGs i had in "C:\WINDOWS" after converting the ones in the "not yet" folder to ICOs. I had to put it in there because thats where the BAT file was looking for it.

Hope it helps someone else - although it would be better if it was easier to customize - maybe some sort of interface for batch Converting!

If you havent seen it, you're missing out:

Drag pngs > Drop > conversion > .icos output

Drag icos > drop > conversion > .pngs output

how much simpler do you want it?

I registered to share my experiences on this matter. I've tried every single software mentioned here and I've found that Axialis IconWorksop indeed is the best. You can see it on this screenshot:

post-114321-1118676285.jpg

Advanced Batch Converter: looks great but converts only selected icon size, not all embedded sizes.

IrfanView: jagged, no alpha channel.

png2ico: jagged, no alpha channel.

Xnview: jagged.

Photoshop CS plugin posted on this topic: jagged.

IconWorkshop: the best.

Icon Sushi: jagged.

AveIconifier2: jagged.

SnIcon Edit: jagged.

I don't know if I'm making a mistake while converting for these jagged icons but since IconWorkshop does it right, I don't care

You forget to mention Stardock's solution, it has the most advanced filtering and you can control it much better than axialis's filtering. Plus Stardock's solution gives you more icons in less time since when you've configured it to your liking it does the rest almost automatically

Are you talking about IconPackager?

Personally, I resize the original PNG to the 3 required sizes in Photoshop (using bicubic filtering) which are 48x48, 32x32, and 16x16 - Then use each of those images for my respective icon size in Microangelo Creator, and compile the icon.

I must have a look at IconWorkshop though.

I think RealWorld Icon Editor is worth mentioning here. It can convert an image to icon and you can configure image sizes and color depths to generate. You can also let it apply a custom (shadow, outline) effect. A different one on each generated image!

No batch processing in current version though. You would have to click four times per image: Drag & Drop to Open, then Generate, Save, and OK.

    • IBM are good at announcing stuff, but not at actually delivering it... How many decades ago did they announce quantum computers, and here we are in 2026, with CHINA delivering them, and IBM still talking...
    • It sounds like you’re trying to rewrite a narrative to align this layoff with your political beliefs. Games can be horrible, whatever backwards notions you have don’t change that bungie has problems, mostly with just bad games, and arrogance. When they pushed Microsoft to let them be independent they lost their way. They hired on a bunch of people and they couldn’t justify the employee count consistent with their revenue.
