Hard Disk Temperature 53C

Recommended Posts

Recently I am experiencing some freeze after using few hours with my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with it's Hitachi HDD.

I have installed HDD Health software which it shows health condition 100% good Hard Disk temperature 53 Celsius and sometimes 57 Celsius.

Is that temperature going to cost me some money for replacement?

Where are you seeing 53C? I'm seeing 40C there.

I would try to get more airflow over it, because that is a bit hot. For comparison the 2 in this comp are at 27 and 34

Sort of impossible to get more airflow over a hard drive in a laptop. They are usually completely encased and the only thing getting air are the fins attached to heatpipes. :p

I had a 2 year old WD Raptor go from its 42 degree average to 50-55. Didn't fail but I went out to replace it with a black caviar, temps stayed at 40 degrees after that. Point is, HDD temps can soar on its own even if cooling is fine, I just wasn't comfortable keeping the raptor running.

thank you guys, yes even thought picture does not shows actual heat temp c I just put the picture with low heat temp c, because when hits above 59 0r sometime 57, it start make funny "grrrr" noise from board or HDD which I am not sure the sources or maybe it could be system bios noise.

The Laptops starts freezing frequently, keyboard and mouse freeze 100% and I am forced to switch it off. and does not boot, maybe after 4 or 5 hours later with few attempts it starts and shortly after use it freeze again .

what could be the possible hardware failure Ram, HDD. MD?

I have run Dell Diagnostic CD from boot up, and result shows green mark (passed) in every hardware test.

Can somebody tell me what I can do to make my computer stop freezing? Is it the RAM I am running xp with 1 GB Ram .

I am sure it is not the virus , because I managed to format it, even immediately after format on newly windows xp installed it keep freezes.
