I am trying to set up an FTP with IIS, and have installed it from the Windows Components part of Add-Remove Programs.

I have configured it as shown, and my router is using UPnP, so I assumed I won't have to open any ports (I've not had to when using a third party app, so I don't see why IIS would need to have that done)

This is how its currently configured:

It's the WAN IP Address I have in the IIS Config btw.

Go into "Advanced", "Forwarding"; type a name (IE: IIS Server), for ports, select the port range (IE: 80 ~ 81), select TCP and UDP, type the last section of your IP address, and check enable :)

I've tried that (ports 20-21 for FTP, right?)

And tried putting in 192.168.1.2 (my NIC address) in the IIS config, and my WAN IP address, and it still won't work.

... where the hell did you find the second one

Its the one when clicking on UPnP forwarding.

Is FTP running? Ie can you connect to the server from your local lan, or even that same machine? I would make sure that the ftp server is working - before you start working on the forward.

And you can not set IIS to listen on the WAN ip address, it needs to be set to the IP address of the machine it is running on it.

I thought I was doing something wrong.

I had tried my machine's IP, but that was before I set up the forwarding, I just did it, and it works ! :D

Thanks!

Edit: it just seems to time out for other people, but it works fine on my machine.

ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Is that some warez that I see in there? hehe  :D

Nope, its my drive for backups of software I use - much faster when I re-install, although if anyone was to download it I guess it would count as warez, I'll remove the link.

Edit: well, I guess the 6in1 is warez  but I have MSDN access now :p

I have the same router and I have a Serv-U FTP server set up behind it. To get the FTP to work, I had to forward tcp ports 20 and 21. Since my server is behind the router/firewall, I also forwarded a range of tcp ports for passive FTP which Serv-U supports. I haven't had any problems with this set up except for some friends trying to connect to my ftp using active ftp instead of passive.

No that's warez alright. Whilst a couple of no CD cracks (for those pesky game copy protections that don't work properly- B&W, Vietcong etc) and some regular ISOs you could probably claim were fair use backups. But Windows XP 6in1 SP1.iso & Windows Server 2003 6in1.iso are certainly not backups. And keygens are certainly not needed by legit users.

I wouldn't even try sharing if your so lame that you expose your warez collection to the world.

Edit: By the way you've left folder browsing on ftp://81.98.128.139/ so even though FAST couldn't download the evidence, I guess the filename listings would be enough to get a warrant in the UK. Short of that i'm pretty sure that NTL would consider it a violation of your Ts&Cs.

Well that was nice and embarrasing  - its my 20 gig drive, and I've not cleared it out for ages. Yes, I used to use warez, I'm not proud of it, but I am now using 100% legit software.

I have now deleted all that warez from my drive, I have bought all the software that I continue to use.

And I do own System Shock 2, Deus Ex and Bust-A-Move 4 - They're ?5 games, so its not like I need to steal them, my CDs are scratched beyond repair, and I had made backups. Deus Ex actually doesn't need a nocd anyway, you can add a line to the .ini to do it, but then you don't get the music.

Hopefully this will show you that I have got rid of the warez:

And to prove I have MSDN access:

The only reason I even shared that drive was to test out my ftp, had I even realized there was warez on it, I wouldn't have posted a link. I only upload at 10KB/sec max anyway, so its not like there would be much point in setting up a warez ftp - I was setting one up was for transferring school files back and forward for a project I'm working on, as I'm ill at the moment, and this has to be finished by the end of the week, or I will fail computing this year.
