Firefly Linux Float Beta 1 Released

The Shift spinoff - Firefly Linux - has reached Beta 1 today. Firefly is optimized for netbooks, running LXDE and a set of popular Linux applications like Openoffice, VLC, Gimp, along with Google Gadgets and Adobe Flash built-in, and much more. The download is 559MB. It's based on Arch Linux.

Can it be tested as a live cd and what are the minimal specs?

Also which kernel is it running?

I love LXDE it is simple and fast..

Also it seems as if the US mirror is down.

Redvamp: Yes, it's a live CD, minimal specs are 256MB RAM, due to Openoffice and a reasonable processor (post 1998?)

The kernel version is 2.6.29.

The reason I asked is because I had the nvidia isssue with 2.6.27 when running Intrepid and didn't want to revisit that nightmare-- of scrolling and blurring.

I'm not trying to be mean, but claiming 559MB as "tiny" seems wrong. At least aim for 400MB or lower.

It is tiny considering what it has-- if they took out open office-- and just put abiword they may have your 400mb

559mb is tiny when comparing it to the other releases that are around 650mb or more

I use an express card in my laptop because I use a 3G connection. Can firefly support these cards and connections?

*Why do many of the items in the panel menu have the "application-x-executable" icon?

*When I try to run "man anycommand", I get "bash: /usr/bin/man: Input/output error". Whats wrong?

*Why does LXAppearance list every theme and icon theme twice?

I don't get DistroWatch at all. It's past our 90 day waiting period which we seem to be the only ones to have been affected by it and have submitted every release to them but have gotten no coverage at all. From experience Shift always made the front page when we submitted it - no fair! :p And the bugs were noted. Ask LXDE why LXAppearance fails. :p I'll see what's up with man - you can try to pacman -Rs man and then pacman -S man to reinstall.
