Program to change the logon screen each logon.

Recommended Posts

Thanks, I've been trying to work out what was playing up! Thought I may have fixed it up already.

I'm thinking that each user will have their own image lists in the next version, so multiple users can run and use the program if they wish with their own images.

As a side note, Multiple users is not broken in 2.0 anymore.

It still works when the user who set it up logs in it changes. When another user logs in, it just keeps the last picture till the orignal user logs back in, then it changes again. This was not the case in the 1.x versions.

I am looking forward to the next version.

Thanks Luke.

After some careful concideration, I know people won't agree with me.

But I think it's fine the way it is now. If you are saying to allow multiple users to add folders to the app. I guess that would be ok, accept,, If you already have a small folder entered and someone adds a huge folder, one persons logon screen will never be seen.

I think having (in my opnion, and it is not to be totalitarin about it) one admin of the app would be sufficiant.

But, it should change screens on every logon for any user. But, it could get very chaotic if all users could add thier own folders and such.

Basically, if user a logs in, they log out screen changes

user b logs in they log out screen changes, niether user may hardley ever see thier chosen screen when sitting down.

However, the way you have it designed now should be sufficiant for all users.

I have not tested much, but if I add several seperate folders from different locations and drives, I assume it pulls randomly from all folders added.

as it is now, if a user that didn't initiate the start of the program, runs the app from their account ( ihave not tested)

Will this corrupt it and break it, (like 1.x)? or will thier settings take precedent, or will it not run and say it already exists?

There are lot of conflicts that could arise from options added.

So I think some careul cocideration of this option should be thought over before diving head long into coding that option.

Just my opinion.

I am not a programmer btw. and this is great program, not to be givin up on at all.

OR, if possible, add the option of allowing others to add or not add. allowing only one admin or not.

If my thoughts are correct, that could be coding nightmare?

What currently happens in 2.0 is that any user can add folders and whenever a user logs on (or whatever option is set) then it will change across the system. I'm going to let users have that option or the other option will be that each user has their own set of images, so when they logon their images will popup and when another user logons that users images will be shown. I think that may be the best way to go about it.

or the other option will be that each user has their own set of images, so when they logon their images will popup and when another user logons that users images will be shown

Basically, if user a logs in, they log out screen changes to their screen. If they don't come back and...

user b logs in, when they log out screen changes, niether user may hardley ever see thier chosen set of screens when sitting down

But I guess there is no perfect answer for that,,, it's the chicken or the egg concept.

In 2.0 as it is,,, does the following....

It doesn't change screens for all users when they login/logout.

If user A logs in and runs the program and hits the Enable and Exit button.. the screens only change for that person

If user B logs in, and runs the program and hits the Enable and Exit button, that user becomes the default owner and screen sonly change for them. I know I'm repeating myself a bit, I just want to re-clarify.

Logon Screen Rotator is not at 2.0.0.1

However,

It still only changes logon screens for the user that ran the setup initially

Changes I would like to see....

1. Make it change logon screen when any user logs on and off, not just the user that ran the program first.

2. Get rid of or ability to disable the History, (personally, I find it an unnecessary feature and don't understand the purpose)

I have not tested the "only allow one user to change the program settings", but this is good if it works.

I like that you added, "change the logon screen each time you lock your computer". But have not tested. I'm sure it works.

I think if you fix those two things, and the one user settings thing works, then this app would be perfect.

Thanks for all the work you have put into this app.

Hi Tepid,

I find it strange that it doesn?t work across all users on your machine, I have found it to work on other machines. I would also like to know if the option to only allow one user to change settings works for you.

I may add the ability to disable the history, but I have had some people request this so they can know what background screen they had a specific time.

The ability to change on each computer lock is the option I use as I rarely log off but always lock my machine when i?m not near it. I should of put it in earlier!

Luke.

I will double check this tonight.

Could it have something to do with UAC? I will confirm.

I will put it through it's paces tonight when I get the chance.

On the history thing. I just feel it is a privacy issue.

Any user that gets on there can see when someone has logged on and doesn't need permissions.

I know they don't know who it was, but they have the ability to see this info. Not that I have anything to hide.

But it's no ones business in my opinion.

It may seem trivial when there are other ways to get this info with more details.

I guess I just don't understand the reason to wanting to know when one screen was used at what time.

It doesn't make since to me. This should (in my opinion) be just a simple tool that rotates logon screens and nothing more, well besides the other option for button and text shadowing. If there are other things changeable, such as location of login box etc, that would be cool. But I personally see no point in logging screen changes.

I mean, is someone really looking to see when one picture was used at some time/date? Why?

I will update the thread on your site as well when I confirm things.

I should say I am using Win 7 Build 7264 (not 7600 RTM), There could be a difference.

With UAC Enabled.....

1. Disable Other Users Changing Screens

First Run = unchecked

Second Run = checked

Third run = unchecked

etc. over and over again....

It is checking and unchecking itself on each run.

However, it does only allow the person who enables the program to run the program

as long as the box is checked when X out and click yes. Otherwise they can open it,

make changes and enable the program, at which point the next person can not

because it auto enables single user use, and it then only changes screens for that user who enabled it.

You can uncheck or check it manually though, but you have to look at it and set it each time.

2. Screens for additional users are not changing, only myself, or the person who runs and enables the program.

Weather the single user box is checked or not.

3. I want to reiterate, personally I don't like the logging feature.

I have tried to find a reason for it's use, but fail to see it's purpose for existence.

With UAC Disabled.....

same results as above

Thank you for taking the time to read this and the effort you put in to the program.

As it stands, I am using 2.0.0.0 .

It's a great program, I just don't know if you can make everyone happy with it.

Multiple users is an issue.

I also noticed that very large pictures do take a bit of time to convert. This is not a fault of the app, but large pictures.

So, if someone adds a folder with very large images, you might see a freezing moment at the point of changing the screen image on some lower end systems, potentially.

This should be working. Which setting have you selected for when to change the image?

Unfortunately I can't make it any quicker, hopefully this is not an issue for most people.

Thank you for your feedback :)

Why does it create a folder in the root (C:\logonscreenrotator) instead of just keeping its settings nicely inside the folder the executable is in? This is kinda sloppy. Using v2.1.0.2 on Windows 7 x64.

The program creates a static directory so it can continue to function independent of where the user moves the original executable to. In a future version there will be an installer so this directory will be in the Program Files directory.

I'm also working on adding support for Windows Vista and possibly XP in the next release.

Charge like ?10 for it, then upload the cracked version to some torrent tracker and bam! instant popularity

LMAO the thing is, ure right! Looks good thou im using it mysel:):)

For those of you who were interested in the ability to include internet images, there is now a release that includes this. You can see it at http://www.lukepaynesoftware.com/lsrotator/beta

This update can download images from RSS feeds or static internet images. There is also now an option to allow the application to decide which is the best button set to use on a per image basis. Many scenarios in which people were unable to use the program have now been resolved as well.

This topic is now closed to further replies.

    • What people who support this position of LibreOffice do not understand is that EuroOffice is not made to appease the open source enthusiasts (I am also one) and evangelists. EuroOffice was made because some European companies wanted independence from Microsoft Office Suite, which is something installable on your computer. This move to independence was pushed by public institutions and governments in Europe, as well. Using a proprietary FORMAT as default, does not make you dependent on MS. The actual program does. A format can be changed with a simple update in the future in a dystopian world where MS would manipulate the format to lock others out. However, using MS Office proprietary format, guarantees that all the current documents used by companies, organizations, institutions, etc, will be compatible with EuroOffice and the suite will have the best chances at adoption, especially by slow moving organizations like governments and the public sector. It is as simple as that. For the same reason, even the UI is incredibly similar to MS Office. For the same reason (adoption) the choice was made to be open source. Not because EU particularly loves open source ideologically, but because it gives the best starting point to create trust in the project and amass developers and contributions to the project quickly, to catch up with proprietary projects like MS Office. I don't understand how people don't realize it.
    • How old is this tip? Seems 15-20 years old? Processor states for the CPU under Windows power options has been a thing for a long, long time. It certainly isn't new or hidden... Also, with laptops it doesn't make any difference what OS you are running, all of them are configured for battery longevity over performance, for obvious reasons.
    • I can't believe Starmer is still there...his party lost so big. He's a stubborn coot, but this is largely unenforceable, so I would imagine he'll be resigning soon. A key here is for parents to buy their kids phones sans Internet access--and set up the Internet at home, where mom and day can, you know, act like parents instead expecting the government to raise their kids.
    • EA launches in-game advertising platform for brands to "connect with audiences" by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe The gaming giant Electronic Arts is exploring more ways to inject real-life brands into its games. Announced today as EA Advertising, the new platform is attempting to make it easier for brands to reach out for deals with the company and put their products inside titles like EA Sports FC, Madden, NHL, Skate, or The Sims. EA revealed that its EA Sports side of the company brings in "hundreds of millions of players across console, PC, and mobile" every year. Fan engagement of these titles was also touted as being "extraordinary," with 23,000 NFL seasons worth of games being played in Madden NFL daily, while EA Sports FC sees over a billion matches a day. “Players come to EA’s games and live experiences every day to play, watch, create and connect,” said David Tinson, Chief Experiences Officer at Electronic Arts. “That gives brands a meaningful opportunity to show up in ways that add value and respect the player experience, while maintaining authenticity in the worlds our teams are building. With EA Advertising, we’re helping brands become part of those moments in ways that are relevant and built for players.” Using the new program EA Advertising, brands will be able to inject their products into games in real-time via dynamic placement. EA says partners will have access to everything from stadium signage in sports games and targeted adverts to in-game content custom-made for the brands. These are described as additions designed to "enhance, not disrupt" experiences. "In these interactive gameplay environments, brands become part of the game itself, reflecting how players engage with advertising in real-world contexts," adds the company "Brands can activate across live environments, tailoring placements to meet campaign objectives, and update campaigns with ongoing optimization informed by aggregated engagement insights." Current real-world brand partnerships EA has built into its games include Visa (EA Sports FC and College Football), Lowe's (EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, and College Football), Red Bull (EA SPORTS FC), Xfinity and Peacock (EA SPORTS FC), and Mountain Dew’s (College Football).
