Hey all,

A few months back, I wrote a little application to free up space in the EmptyWorkingSet giving you more free RAM!

RAMPro will automatically free up this un-used space in all running processes or a user selected process.

Minimizing RAMPro will send it to the task bar, just click the icon again to bring it back up.

The download is available here.

Thanks for looking,

James

Frank,

Removes as many pages as possible from the working set of the specified process.

I ran some tests under Windows 7 whilst running RAMPro and everything seemed to speed up by a fair amount. I have 3GB's of RAM so for me it's no big deal, but this program was written when I only had 1GB.

simple solution: get more RAM. It's cheap.

Some facts, I'm running with student budget, my mobo is old (it eats older ddr ram), all the ram slots are in use already, so not that cheap. It's either replace mobo or replace existing ram pieces ...

Edit: It seems this puppy is helping to manage the RAM usage of Fx? That'd be nice :) In my case (some extensions, multiple tabs usually) Fx tends to quickly eat at least 150MB of RAM.

That's fine, what about laptops and older machines?

It's exactly why I made it. I too am a student with zero income, this helped a lot.

Firefox definitely likes to take RAM in those situations, I hope it helps.

  • 4 months later...

The past couple of days I have been updating RAMPro, the RAM cleaner! I've taken into consideration the feedback I have been given by friends and people who have used it. A couple of features they have wanted to see added, include:

  • See how much memory a process is using (WorkingGetSize)
  • Close a process
  • Auto run on start up

Not a lot of features but useful nonetheless. I have integrated the first two features which you can see in the screenshots below!

rampro-main.png

On the main screen I have added a visual representation of the RAM through different colour blocks. Different colours mean different things and they are only applied to the two last items shown. Here is how to read the colours:

Available RAM:

Red: The available memory is below a 25% of the total memory

Orange: The available memory is below 50% of the total memory

Green: The available memory is above 75% of the total memory

Used RAM:

Red: The used memory is below a 25% of the available memory

Orange: The used memory is below 50% of the available memory

Green: The used memory is above 75% of the available memory

It's very straight forward to understand it. You really need to close some processes or update your RAM if you're in the red zone in available RAM!

The process window has also been updated with two features, you're now able to close a selected process and view how much of the WorkingGetSize is being used by the process.

Be aware that killing processes marked SYSTEM can cause your system to stop working, some processes will also do this too - be careful!

Apart from that, nothing new has been added. Perhaps shortly I will add the option to start on start up and also add some of the Aero GUI features to it, although they would seem kind of useless on a system performance application.

You can download the RAR or the ZIP.

I'd love to know if you're using RAMPro and any ideas you have for newer versions :)

    • While LibreOffice is not pleased to see a new competitor, they are absolutely correct in stating that Euro-Office using a MS file standard as a default is not being truly "European." Using a MS standard just means Euro-Office is just a "bastardized MS Office Suite." (Wasn't a major purpose of Euro-Office was to get away from being captive and enslaved to MS's Office Suite??)
    • Microsoft continues its long-term policy of spying on their users--despite vehement denials. That feature will be disabled (or removed) either "elegantly" with MS providing a true way to disable it, or "quick and dirty" via a third-party who WILL come up with a way to disable it.
