Quillz
Anyone notice if the tabs are on the bottom in the Windows version. Apple put them back on the bottom in the final version of the mac edition. Just after I got used to them on the top. Can't seem to find a way to enable it back on the top through Terminal  Apple obviously knows what's best for you. They know that "tabs on bottom" are far superior. But seriously, no. Safari 4 has reverted to the old design model, and that applies to both the Mac and PC versions. bigmehdi
well, I just tried it and I like it much more than previous version 3. I'm happy that they've finally gave up with the lame mac font rendering, and now using cleartype. Interface is now using native windows theme (aero) , and I guess no more stupid glitch because of the mac look. I don't know how it would compare with google chrome (same rendering engine), but I think I have less reasons to choose google chrome over safari. By the way, I see the tabs on top as expected. Omen1393
I just tried safari 4 and side by side against IE8 it's slower at loading most pages. Safari 4 also won't let me change my search engine to bing so it's not going to be used. Manish
I found it really annoying that there wasn't an option to keep the tabs on top. After getting used to it and liking it, it's now gone completely. Back to using these "new" chunky tabs. pairughdocks
Wow, looks pretty fancy. The biggest perk imo, is they removed the tabs from the title bar and they got rid of the apple quicktime installer bundled with Safari. +1 for apple :) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/782060-safari-4-available-to-download/page/3/#findComment-591108574 Share on other sites
rajputwarrior
tabs on the bottom (Y) they cleaned it up nicely too, looks a lot slicker and its FAST! fastest browser i've ever used. Ayepecks
It was faster at work for me on an older XP system; slower on my Core 2 Quad PC at home. It's still got a lot of work to go, IMO, if it wants to catch up with Firefox. Veedems Veteran Posted June 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 9, 2009 Honestly, with Chrome being available, I see little reason to use Safari on Windows. It used to be the only mainsteam way to get webkit on the platform, but now Google's software exists and it just runs better. crankenstein.exe
why bother? ie 8 is faster and more secure. looks like a rehash of chrome if you ask me ;) Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/782060-safari-4-available-to-download/page/3/#findComment-591108902 Share on other sites
The_Decryptor Veteran Posted June 9, 2009 Veteran Share Posted June 9, 2009 Thank god they dropped the stupid "tabs on top" thing, their implementation sucked, messed with user interaction, and was just ugly. Shame they didn't drop the copy of the Chrome UI for something native looking (Like Firefox). cpressland2
Safari is a horrible browser. I don't know why anyone would use it. Well, nobody asked you to come to this thread and complain about it, however *points at big Neowin logo at top of page* go click that shiny button and let the adults talk in peace. I tried it in Windows 7 and it the only browser I have found that is slower than IE. Fast on my rig, then again Safari is based heavily around multi-threading now, make sure you've got a multi-core processor or it will be slower. why bother? ie 8 is faster and more secure. looks like a rehash of chrome if you ask me ;) http://www.imgdash.com/uploads/76aea_benchmark.png <-- you sure about that mate? IE8 is well known at being the SLOWEST browser currently available. sn00pie
I actually liked my Safari 4 beta...it seems like they actually slugged this down abit. I don't like that loading addition on the taskbar that wasn't their in the beta. Google Maps seems to be the only website that loads super fast  Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/782060-safari-4-available-to-download/page/3/#findComment-591108994 Share on other sites

Tech Star
I really like Safari, but Firefox and IE are still ahead. It's fast! rollinup
I've been using it for a little bit now and I have to say a lot of people are being really critical. I find it to be extremely fast, it's faster then firefox on my connection, the rendering is quick and I have to say I'm really impressed with this! MarkusJ
Can anyone help me make the tabs at the upper? (Like Safari 4 beta) I personally liked that much better, it looked much better in the beta. And no, it don't want a answer like "Why the .... would you like that?" rikfrombelgium
well, I'm using it now and I have to say, it's very smooth, fast and stable. Don't like chrome anymore, too much issues with it on Windows 7. I always switch browsers, currently have FF, IE8 and Safari but might forget FF for this. Will always use IE8 though, because of how it's implemented in windows 7. But than again, safari does this too, all the tabs are previewed in windows 7. Might actually use this a lot than. Haha, typical apple, bashing windows 7 too hell but altering their browser so it uses all the features of windows 7.
