Hello, just a couple of minutes ago, I was using my computer when a blue screen popped up with a Memory Management error. What could have happened? All I was doing was browsing the forums and watching a movie.

Ive got blue screens before, but not for memory management. In fact, I have actually sent my computer to HP twice for repair after recieving a blue screen about a hard drive sector.

What could be the problem?

Run either the microsoft ram checker( i think vista has one) or the hp utilities that check ram. Also make sure that all your drivers are up to date.

My HP Health Check utility says the system is fine, and my System Information screen says all system memory is fine.

download this app http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed and have it analyze the dump file and see what it says.

It said:

Analysis

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Crash dump directory: C:\Windows\Minidump

Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

No crash dumps have been found on your computer

zip the file C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini061409-01.dmp and upload it here.

It wont let me do anything with the file. It says "Access is denied"

A 1A error is hardware related. Here's what I'd do if I were you:

1) Download and run a utility to check your ram (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS326US326&q=memory+checking+software) regardless of what system information is telling you.

2) Check for updated drivers for your video and audio cards (from the OEM websites, not from MS Update)

3) Check for a bios update

If this is the first time you've seen that screen I wouldn't worry TOOOOO much about it, but if it happens again there is a problem somewhere.

It wont let me do anything with the file. It says "Access is denied"

The crash dumps are in the Windows folder, so you'd need elevated permissions to do anything in there. If you're trying to create the .zip file in there it won't work (unless the zip program you're using was launched with "Run as administrator").

If you're going to zip files in a Windows folder you might want to first copy the file(s) out of that folder onto your Desktop or wherever, you'll probably get a UAC prompt during the copying.

I had this same blue screen a couple times on Vista SP1.

In my case, this issue was always caused by symevent.sys, which comes with Symantec AntiVirus Corporate. I am running SAV 10.2 (not sure about the .2, though).

Do you have a real-time antivirus running? If yes, which one?

Im using Kaspersky 2009

I see.

My advice to you would be to figure out how to consistently reproduce the problem, and once you do, turn off real-time scanning, and try to reproduce the problem again.

Thats going to be hard to do. I multitask all the time like this, and I have never had this problem before.

try another AV perhaps?in the past kaspersky has caused strange errors n such but perhaps it is happening to you.

Kaspersky is one of the best and most reliable AV utilities and has the fewest problems among major AV programs. Please document your claim that it has caused "strange errors n such".

OP - has the blue screen error repeated?

No, it hasnt. I tried to induce the problem, but nothing will happen.

your crash happens while Superfetch tries to load your most frequently used files into the RAM to cache them.

the first parameter is 0x30 and this one is not documented inside the help of the debugger, so we can't say more about this :(

Have you tried to update to SP2?

    • It is when it's a desktop in my house though for a PC that's lightly used and not really important when it is. If it was a laptop, it would be a different story. The real solution is varied and begins starting at post #22 in that thread.
