How Do I Disable Hardware Acceleration in Vista Basic?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I love making screen-cast videos for YouTube - but I haven't made one in about a month. Why? Because I have been using Windows 7 and was unable to disable hardware acceleration in order to reduce the amount of lag in my videos. I switched to my system's default operating system, Windows Vista Home Basic 32-Bit, in order to try to be able to disable the hardware acceleration of my computer.

I then later realized that it is the same on Vista as it was on Windows Seven. Great. I use Intel graphics and I was wondering if there was any way to disable the hardware acceleration in the Intel Control Panel or if I could do so with some third-party software.

Any help is appreciated, I use Camtasia Studio to record my videos if anyone wanted to know.

For a start what do you mean by "Disable Hardware Acceleration" disable Windows Aero ? simply select one of the non Aero themes in the control panel .

Be sure to visit the add and remove programs center afterwards and uninstall Camtasia Studio because Adobe Captivate smashes it into a million pieces.

Besides what Bob21 and FrozenEclipse said, if you are attempting to turn down/off the hardware acceleration even farther than just DWM and Aero, ther is also a panel to do that. Right click somewhere on your desktop, go to Personalize. Then go down to Display Settings, then click "Advanced Settings" and find the tab that says "Troubleshoot." There you should find the spot where you can lower system hardware video acceleration by steps or completely disable it. Between the above suggestions and this, that should cover you.

However, what makes you think that hardware accelleration or Aero is causing the problems with recording? Some older screen-cam software does have issues with Aero, but usually Aero will disable at those points because it detects incompatability.
