just downloaded the update

found a little bug... onthe start menu

between mouse over and not. in the blue compact version.

You'll find that if you're not logging on to a domain (and therefore the item on the start menu is named 'Turn Off Computer' rather than 'Shut Down'). I'll do a minor update and include the Winamp Skin when I have it finished.

And just for you antoxicon I might even add in a compact start menu option (though I have to say I'm not a fan personally). I assume you'd be happy enough with it being sized for 32x32 icons (using 48x48 icons in a compact start panel doesn't really make sense as far as I can see anyway).

"browness" is showing up in programs where it can't be changed. Xnews is an example. There is a bar of this browness stretching across the lower part of the window (toolbar area). I agree with StuRReaL, the brown just does not work. Other than that, it's a great vs.

Frankly I don't think it would work with grey but then I guess that's just personal preference.

I'd suggest changing the 3D Controls colour to 233 232 231 (RGB).

After doing so you'll need to reset the Inactive Title bar colours. Colour 1: 201 191 191. Colour 2: 223 220 215

That should obliterate all 'brownness'. You can of course tweak the actual colour you choose to get exactly the look you want.

Hey ThemeNorth, the latest update did away with the "browness" in certain aps, and I have not changed a thing here! Don't know if this was intentional in your update, but I love it! Thanks for one of the Best vs's!!

Funny, I didn't change any of the colours!! Must be gremlins :p

Don't think I said before but it's good to hear you like it.

And a thankyou to everyone for the support. It makes it worthwhile when you know people enjoy what you've created.

ThemeNorth:

What program did you use to make this theme?

I tryed importing into stylebuilder (too see how you did things) but was unable too,due to a number of errors and the fact that stylebuilder also said theme was not made using its program.

Also im not sure if i like the idea of a .exe program that adds program to add/remove,does this mean it also in win registry?

No offence, but always makes me wonder if it might of contained something i didnt want? (call me overly paranoid)

Resource Hacker, ResBuild and the Visual Studio 6 IDE Resource Editor. I edited the INI files directly (along with the other control resources: combo data, file res names etc.) with notepad or a hex editor where necessary. I took this route for two reasons the first being that I didn't like StyleBuilder in the slightest especially the way in which it doesn't allow you full control (plus it ran out after 30 days).

What I have now is a resource script (.rc) which I compile to a resource file (.res) using a command line compiler. I then update the resources in the .msstyle file using Resource Hacker (again via the command line). I've got a batch file which does this automaticallly, then opens Display Properties to allow me to apply the VS.

I use ResBuild to edit the 32 bit bitmaps (which it converts to PNGs).

As for the installer I felt it would make things easier (it does add entries to the registry as you expected but I can assure you that these are just for the uninstall item in Add/Remove programs). As the executable is simply a self-extracting cabinet archive which then runs my VB setup program you can extract the files manually should you wish (but there are 16 sub-folders to place the shellstyle.dll under).

Thankyou very much for explaining things.

Also just a note: before you explained how you did things,i tryed importing your theme in windresser and it worked.

Not a problem :)

Interesting to know that it opened properly in WinDresser (especially given that I've split graphics into various 'directories'). Might have to take a look, thanks for the info.

I was just wondering where I might be able to find the "Ensign" fonts for this V.S.?

The Ensign Font is a product of MicroLogic Software, Inc. and I assume that normal copyright laws apply to fonts hence the reason I haven't included it in the package. Let me know otherwise and I'll add it in. As for where you can get it I'm afraid I have no idea (since I don't really know where all the fonts I have came from).

Having said that it is only used for the user name on the start panel in Standard and No User Picture modes so you don't lose much by not having it.

Did you forget to add a shellstyle to Extra Compact Red?

No, the installer should have created the extra directory for you and put the shellstyle dll in it. If not copy it across manually (it's the same dll for all modes and colours) the directory should be named 'RedUltraThin'.

is that y u have more than 10 substyles> bc i thought it was limited to 10

You can have as many substyles as you like (I couldn't say what limit stylebuilder imposes though). Plus having done everything manully I've shared graphics between options and colours to reduce the file size.
