(More) Ads Coming To Xbox 360 Dashboard?

Recommended Posts

Whatever dude. You're still making something out of nothing. The changes aren't going to be very noticeable, if at all. The new ads aren't going to be any more invasive than the old ones and are going to be just as relevant, so I don't know what you're complaining about.

Well, I'm glad we have one person here who knows the intricacies of Microsoft's future plans for the 360s dashboard.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm wondering if this has already been implemented as I just noticed there is a Telus (local phone company) commercial (Yes, full commercial. The same one that's on tv) on the Inside Xbox section for me. Anyone else have something like this?

You sure? That would suck. It's probably an American ad at least... You guys love your ads (American TV is atrocious).

No, it's definitely Canadian. Telus is a western Canadian telephone company. I'll try and borrow a camera and take a video of it for you guys later.

Quickly recorded a vid for you guys. Crap quality, but you get the idea.

Woah that sucks, seriously? Video advertisements for things not related to gaming?

Stay in Canada please (the ads, not you lol).

Just noticed there's a better quality video of it here (the ad repeats on a loop :/)

Anyone think this is part of the new Silverlight ad campaign? I thought we'd need a front end dashboard update for that though, unless it's all on the backend.

Sorry Stifler but it looks like these ads are not relevant at all...

That's quite sad but what do you expect. The service is evolving into what Microsoft always wanted, the controlled hub in your living room that links to all sorts of services. A lot of money to be made.

With regards to that ad, you could kinda see a link with that company, broadband internet. Might be useful to get other providers for the best gaming experience! Expect that to be Major Nelson's response. The ads will just be like TV eventually as the service evolves, no doubt about that but Microsoft easing in slowly.

As I said, We've had looping video tiles/ads since the launch of the NXE, not related to silverlight at all.

Nobody disagrees with that, but we've not had these type of ads before.

I double checked yesterday and we dfinitely don't have anything like this on the UK XBL dashboard.

Sorry Stifler but it looks like these ads are not relevant at all...

Sure, but they aren't any more invasive. If they stay like what we just saw in that vid, I could still care less. I don't really spend much on Inside Xbox, and that probably rings true for most people. Not to mention its not like you're forced to watch the ad before you can move over to other, more relevant things.

Still doesn't seem like a big deal to me. You're still overreacting.

No, no no no no no no no no no no no no no no!

No!

You couldn't care less.

Why do people say I could care less, when that doesn't make any sense. If you could care less about the ads, then that means that you do care about them a bit, but, if you really didn't care about them, then you couldn't care less.

Apologies if this sounds like a snipe at you, it's not. It's just a general rant, sorry for going off topic.

Obviously I knew what you were saying, but it's so bloody annoying imo.

It's almost like how I get annoyed at Neowin (and most other forums online) for using such a bad winking emoticon. If it were a wink like it is on msn, it could be used for winking. The way that it is, its used for sort of *scrunching up one half of your face and smirking whilst saying* "I'm so much better than you". When people on here will disprove what someone else has said with a fact or statistic, they will follow it up with that emoticon and it just turns the entire post into an attack at the previous poster, rather than a mature and valid point which adds to the discussion.

Once again, this isn't a snipe at you Spencer :)

EDIT:

I'll save someone else the work:

It's almost like how I get annoyed at Neowin (and most other forums online) for using such a bad w*nking emoticon. If it were a w*nk like it is on msn, it could be used for w*nking.

fixed ;)

(see what I mean)

    • The FIFA World Cup is not US centric.
    • It’s amusing how Microsoft is pushing IT admins as if this was a major, game-changing update. In reality, it’s just an enablement package that bumps the build number, which is disappointing compared to the more substantial 22H2 and 24H2 releases. Technically, 25H2, 26H1, and the upcoming 26H2 are essentially the same, differing only in support schedules. They could have included the Windows K2 improvements here, but chose not to. The era of Windows being in the backburner continues, and this 26H2 release feels like an afterthought. Shame, Nadella, shame.
    • Microsoft, totally not confusing /s 25H2 - Current for non-Arm based Windows 26H1 - Current for Arm based Windows 26H2 - Only for non Arm Windows
    • After I installed those, my older but capable Win 11 laptop (16GB RAM) reported it as 26H2 26300.8697. Then I installed it on my big laptop (128GB RAM! Hehe sorry), it reported it as 25H2 26220.8690. Ugh. Do I have to switch Insiders channels from Release to Beta?
