Sean B. Veteran Posted July 2, 2009 Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2009 Ok so I heard a weird noise when I turned on my laptop today, and it was a sound I had never heard. It did it for about 2 split seconds and I haven't heard it since. I figured since I didn't take it with me today, maybe one of my family members did something dodgy on it today so I did a system restore because everything was lagging extremely bad. After I successfully did a system restore, it fixed whatever the problem was. However I was still curious about the sound I heard so I opened up Event Viewer and I found the following: A corrected hardware error occurred. Error Source: Corrected Machine Check Error Type: Memory Hierarchy Error Processor ID Valid: Yes Processor ID: 0x1 Bank Number: 0 Transaction Type: Data Processor Participation: N/A Request Type: Snoop Memory/Io: N/A Memory Hierarchy Level: Level 1 Timeout: N/A A corrected hardware error occurred. Krispy Kritter
I found the following: Micorosft Windows is reporting a Machine Check Excpetion which is a Hardware Error. This error was reported by WHEA - Windows Hardware Error Architecture http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/pnppw...ea/default.mspx Memory hierarchy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memory_hierarchy Defines Memory Hierarchy Level 1 (L1) cache ? often accessed in just a few cycles, usually tens of kilobytes Level 1 is integrated directly into the CPU. So it sounds like it is a cpu issue. Either way, it's hardware related, not much you can do unless it's under warranty.
