Pseudonym
We have a 3Com wireless router (3CRWE554G72) which we've had for about 5 years. About 6 months ago the wireless strength fell dramatically and the router began to crash about once a day. The crash would cut off internet access and 192.168.1.1 wouldn't load either. The solution seems to be to go into the cupboard and manually unplug it and plug it back in again. The crashes don't bother me too much, but I was wondeirng if it was a symptom of a problem which may also be causing the epicly weak wireless signal (range of ~2m) which is really the main annoyance. I've tried doing a full system reset but the problems remain... Any advice would be greatly appreciated... Krispy Kritter
It's had a good life, time to replace it. Seriously. Most of these units run hot anyway, and it sounds like yours is inside cabinet. I had similar symptoms with my Linksys when it died. It would lose connectivity about once a day and need to be reset. Pseudonym
Okay, that was a thought I had. My dad was reluctant to replace it without trying to figure out if we could fix it first... I guess its been on 24/7 for 5 years so its had a lot of run time... Next question, anyone recommend a good wireless cable router? lol Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/793812-3com-wireless-router-troubles/#findComment-591242944 Share on other sites
Krispy Kritter
About the only thing you could try to "fix" would be to upgrade/flash the firmware. But from the symptoms, I don't expect it to be a software issue. As for a replacement, I prefer Linksys. I can recommend this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16833124190 Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/793812-3com-wireless-router-troubles/#findComment-591242974 Share on other sites
