How to replace uxtheme.dll?

how do i replace the uxtheme.dll file? whenever i try to just paste the new on in there, it says that it is currently in use. can anyone help?

Rename it, copy the new one in. Make sure you either replace or delete uxtheme.dll in

\windows\system32\dllcache first, so Windows wont replace it again with the original.

well, it doesn't work, i put the new uxtheme.dll file in, and had the original named to uxtheme2.dll it still doesn't work right and won't let me delete the uxtheme2.dll file :|

first delete the servicepackfiles folder if you have SP1 installed ;)

lol, where are they located (sorry about my stupidity, i don't know that much about this sort of thing)

just go to windows\system32\ rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old. now go to windows\system32\dllcache. (u have to unhinde hiden folders) open that folder delete all the files reboot in to safe mode and then replace with new file

Dude, it's best to do this with

1. The themes service stopped (go to Services, then Themes, and stop it. or open a command prompt and type NET STOP THEMES.)

2. Rename the files from a command prompt in those places. I've found this works easier.

3. Reboot your machine.

make sure you only have one uxtheme.dll in your Windows folder!

oh yeah. it is in use becuase you are not Administrator.

if you are Administrator, reboot. don't go around deleting DLL files if you don't know what you're doing. use an autopatcher.
