There's no Leonard Nimoy in the first episode of season two, sadly. But he's already filmed one episode for season two, and will be back after that as well. [The TV Addict]

In episode 2x06, "Earthling," we meet Timur Vasiliev, who's wanted in Russia for stealing his brother and bringing him to the U.S. Timur feared the government was experimenting on his brother, so he spirited him away to Russia, where he's been in hiding the past five years. [SpoilerTV]

there's no nimoy in the first ep? i hate when they end one season with an epic cliffhanger and then the next one starts 'some time' after the finale. cuz i dont see any other way to solve that lol

Co-creators Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman say the dynamic will shift a bit in season two: Peter will be taking charge more, while Walter will have more freedom than, perhaps, he ought to have. Explains Kurtzman:

Last year, it was very much about Peter finding himself blackmailed into the position he was in, of having to be his father's caretaker. He was always faced with the possibility of running. What was interesting to us was that he was a character who could bail on everyone else, at any second. I think a lot of what happened, towards the end of last season, and what we see at the beginning of this season, is leading to his commitment to say, "I'm the guy. If we're going to do this, we're going to do it my way. I'm taking charge now. If you want me to help in the Fringe division, then you have to go through me to figure out how we're going to get to cases." That's going to be a very different way of approach for the character.

And they claim that in their alternate world, the terrorists hit the White House instead of the WTC on 9/11, and Kennedy's still alive. At first, Olivia will be the only one going over to the alternate world. [IESB]

interesting last fact there

Jon Cassar, director of episode 2x06, Twittered a picture of his rough storyboards for the episode. What do you think it means? What are all those arrows doing? [TwitPic, thanks to The Booted Lady!]

And here are some set pics from the filming in Vancouver. [Alexei White on Flickr and Jon Yeo on Flickr via SpoilerTV]

The middle 2 pics, right under #206 looks like the portal, and someone coming out in the first one, and a bunch of stuff coming out of it in the second drawing below that. The far right looks like someone talking to someone else lying in a hospital bed, and either they lean down to kiss the person, or are getting close to be able to hear them, OR they merge with the person.

Ok, please someone explain to me in more detail. My friend is confusing me to no end on Fringe. I know it's an X-File/Sci-Fi mash up show. But he's telling me all the time now that the MAIN story now is a parallel universe that wants to invade our universe (or at least, the one depicted in the show) for whatever reason.

Huh? So the show is about FBI agents who investigate odd things, but the entire storyline is about an invasion or some sort of attack from another parallel universe, for no reason yet uncovered?

Basically people believe there is a parallel universe, they create a machine to find out if it is true, it is, some people go to that universe. Of course with everything powerful, it falls into the wrong hands, and the baddies find out about it, and things get crazy..

But normally the show has been pretty much just like X-Files.. Each week this FBI team "like X-Files" investigates these crazy events that happen.. The main focus right now though is this parallel universe..

Curious about Fringe's alternate universe? At the Television Critics Association press tour, critics received copies of the other universe's newspaper. Among the tidbits included: the Obamas are said to be moving into the new White House; John F. Kennedy is alive, well, and active in politics; weather manipulation technology is currently in use; the stock market has been closed for 21 days; the Beatles are all still alive and headed out for a reunion tour; New Orleans may host the 2016 Summer Olympics (thank you, weather manipulation); glow-in-the-dark pets are commercially available; Guns 'N' Roses released the album Chinese Democracy in 2000; Dwayne Johnson is starring in a stage version of Terminator; and Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved in US politics, but as a senator. How is Fringe going to explain the disappearance of Kirk Acevedo's Charlie? ? Annab>

MICKEY: Reports of Acevedo's exit from the show may have been premature. In fact, Agent Francis plays a pretty big role in the thrilling season premiere, in which one main character dies, two kiss and another faces medical uncertainty.

In the season premiere, one main character dies, two kiss, and another faces medical uncertainty. (Olivia, I'm guessing, is the medically uncertain one.) Somehow, in spite of that "main character dies" thing, we're not supposed to count Charlie out just yet, because he plays a big role in the episode. But they didn't say anything about Charlie playing a big role after that episode. [TV Guide]

What happens in the first scene of season two? This promo teases but doesn't really answer. [Fringe Television]

    • Millions of users to benefit from Windows 11's new performance boost on Adobe Photoshop by Sayan Sen Despite the advent of AI-generated imagery, Adobe's Photoshop remains one of the most popular tools on this planet. Adobe does not have a publicly reported total user count but it's probably not wrong to assume there are millions. As of 2025, Adobe Creative Cloud has had approximately 41 million paid subscribers, many of whom likely use Photoshop. In addition, more than 166,000 companies worldwide are apparently also using the app. These figures are according to a very recent report by SQ Magazine. Out of them, it is fair to assume that many are probably running Windows. As such, there is good news for these users as Microsoft has announced Photoshop is getting a big 20% performance boost on x86-64 (AMD64) systems and a 13% bump-up on Arm devices. This is definitely great news for them as many have complained about the slow performance and general sluggishness of Photoshop on Windows 11 ever since the advent of the latter back in 2021. If you are wondering how Microsoft managed to do this, the answer lies in a combination of compiler-level optimizations and a technology called Sample Profile Guided Optimization (SPGO). According to Microsoft, Adobe worked closely with the company’s Visual C++ team and adopted the latest MSVC toolchain enhancements together with SPGO to squeeze more performance out of Photoshop’s CPU-bound workloads. Unlike traditional Profile Guided Optimization (PGO), which requires developers to create special instrumented builds and run lengthy training workloads, SPGO gathers performance data directly from optimized release binaries. This means Adobe could collect real-world usage information which gives a major advantage to this technique, as companies could leverage data collected from actual customer workloads rather than only relying on synthetic benchmark runs. In theory, this should allow optimizations to better reflect how users interact with software in the real world. Thanks to this, there are improvements to code layout, function inlining, hot-and-cold code separation, and other low-level tweaks that help processors execute instructions more efficiently. Essentially the compiler is better able to identify “hot” code paths, those which are most frequently executed, and optimize them accordingly.
    • "The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months¨ I'd prefer to see the lowest price in over a year
    • Glad these prices are starting to come down, but that is still crazy. I bought the 2TB 9100 Pro (slightly more expensive version with PCIe 5.0) last year for $240.
    • The 2TB Samsung 990 PRO NVMe SSD hits lowest price in over three months by Sayan Sen Yesterday, we covered a really good deal wherein you can get a 4TB TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for a low price of just $400 with a special discount coupon. That's just $100 per TB, making it a very good offer during these hard times. The deal is still live, so you can check it out in its dedicated article here if you do not want to miss out. Meanwhile, if you don't have that kind of budget but still wish to buy an SSD for a good price, the 2TB variant of the TeamGroup SSD at $280 its lowest price in over three months. Meanwhile, those seeking 2TB but faster performance can check out Samsung's 990 PRO, which has hit the lowest price also in the last quarter or so, as it's on sale for $370 (purchase links under the specs table down below). Thus, you want a faster drive, get the 990 Pro, or you want more capacity, grab the TeamGroup 4TB linked in the first para. The 990 PRO is a PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD and still one of the fastest drives available today for under $500. Speaking of fast, sequential reads and writes are rated at 7450 MB/s and 6900 MB/s, respectively. The random throughputs for reads and writes are 1400K IOPS and 1550K IOPS, respectively. The 990 PRO is based on Samsung's 7th Gen V-NAND flash, and it too is TLC. It packs 2 gigs of LPDDR4 DRAM cache, which helps the random performance. The endurance rating for this is 1200 TBW (terabytes written), which should be sufficient for most users. The Samsung 990 PRO is compatible with the PlayStation 5, but if you are going to use the 990 PRO on a PC, check out the Samsung Magician app that lets you track your drive's health, update its firmware, customize various settings, and more.
