I'm using XP Pro, it's a lite-on DVD drive, which should support DMA. I doubt it's the cable, because I have my burner connected to it as well, and that's using DMA. I have the DVD as master, and the burner on slave. I've actually never checked to make sure it's in DMA before. How would checking bios settings force DMA?

Yes it does.

Now we're screwed. If you're gonna do a firmware update, be careful. You could also try experimenting. You know, unplug the writer drive, change master/slave, etc.

Don't suppose you have another machine just to try it in?
