James Cameron's Avatar in 3D

Hence I said his earlier works. This CGI stuff is disposable garbage. Here today, forgotten tomorrow. You can watch Aliens today, and it's still a good film...and it's 23 years old. 23 years from now, all people will be doing with Avatar, is going "Wow, that looks fake...and that...that looks silly...". It makes it too easy to date your films, and they lose that timeless quality.

That's because Aliens (Worlds) DOESN'T exist and it's all made up from Imagination/scratch, so it look UNfamiliar. How many times do I have to say this?

Guess so many people just lack imagination, and all they can think of when they think GREAT alien stories is anything remotely similar to District 9 (Because it looks Familar). Sigh :(

I'm not impressed as well. What happened to the claims that this was to be photorealistic? Squashed, that's what happened.

Based on the Zoe Saldana picture I posted, I would say that IS pretty photorealistic!

You just have to get used to that is Alien, NOT human! It LOOKS ENTIRELY WEIRD but I COULD believe aliens like that exist!!!

I'm guessing you didn't like District 9, because you probably didn't understand District 9.

You want to get excited about a digitally-rendered blue 'Gelfling', be my guest. But don't tell me I'm laughing about this film because I lack imagination. I just don't spazz out about hollow, disposable crap.

Off-topic, but is English your native language?

23 years from now, Avatar will be remembered as the movie that ushered in 3D as a mainstream art form.

I still don't agree with you that it looks fake. It looks fake to you, because you keep saying to yourself it doesn't exist. In terms of lighting this is the best there has ever been.

All 3D previews today are sold-out, worldwide. You know that this film will not flop.

Before mocking Jedi's English, you should perhaps check again what 'photorealism' means. The OED says the following: Detailed and unidealized representation in painting, in which subjects are typically depicted with the impersonal exactness of a sharply focused photograph.

Photorealism does not mean it should look real or resemble reality, but that it is based on reality. The only element in this movie, which shows a world that doesn't exist, yet exists in our world is lighting.

I'm guessing you didn't like District 9, because you probably didn't understand District 9.

No, I understand District 9, but the plot is Nothing, and the style is way too familiar and that's exactly why I didn't like it as those did.

Like I said, I am more a Sci-Fi fan of movies like Star Wars, Avatar, where you can Imagine something different/fresh and suspend belief!

You're right! I mean, blue skin and a catlike face! That's so TOTALLY not human. SO WEIRD! It's rubber looking skin, definately photorealistic rubber skin! Never mind it has a skeletal structure completely based on what we already have here on Earth, and that the action figure of these characters WEAR HUMAN CLOTHES...it's totally ALIEN AND WEIRD! Maybe if I TRY HARD, I can believe something like that COULD EXIST! Man, that BLUE SKIN! So not like what I'm used to! So ALIEN and NOT HUMAN!

That better? :woot:

I can think of at least half a dozen films that has been said about. Within years, they are surpassed and look fake.

Have I said anything about it not looking real in 23 years? No, read again. I said that it will be remembered for beginning the era of 3D cinema!

In other words, the films that don't require you to think. Got it, carry on. :p

Been said before.

Every episode of Lost make me think! X-files always made me think! Fringe too!

That movie? NOT really! It pretends to be really smart, but it's really not anything we haven't seen before (Minus the Insect-looking aliens being also involved) *Sigh*

And, I have a challenge for anyone who claims this CG is this movie does not look real, Come up with your own version see if it's better!

Talk IS cheap!

If you can come up with a version BETTER than this, you WIN I lose!!

No no, you're right. It looks good. Fake, but good. I'm sure the story will be irrelevant and this film will be forgotten within a year of release, but it looks good. Unfortunately, that's all it's got going for it.

And you think CGI cat people are original? MMkay...

Again , what is the worry AT ALL the plot won't be good?

It's James Cameron, DON'T worry about it, it will be really.

You say his later movies are meh, but if you really know, all he has been doing lately are Documentaries. He hasn't really directed a movie lately!

And, on the same note, I Blame FOX. They need to find a BETTER trailer editor that make this movie seem much more Dramatic, which I have No doubt at all it will! It just didn't show in this traielr, but then again, people it's a TEASER trailer.

Calm down guys, its just a film :s

 .

 .

 .

Try again:

Tron_poster.jpg or ToyStoryPoster.jpg.. are widely hailed as the films that brought computer graphics into film.

Please don't dispute that because for a LONG time I made Computer Science and Arts my degree.

I am NOT worried, this trailer looks Mind-blowing to me, and James Cameron NEVER made a bad movie, ever! :D

He didn't.. REALLY?

 .

 .

 .

Try again:

Are you also kidding me? I'm not talking about CGI, but about 3D cinema. That is something totally different from each other. Does anyone understand what I am saying here? Neither TRON nor Toy Story are shown in 3D. Well, Toy Story 1 and 2 are remastered in 3D soon. So, you might know more about Computer Sciences, but I know a lot about films. So much about throwing titles.

Think this quote from another site perfectly sums this up;

This trailer looks like they let a bunch of videogame cutscene fans loose in a room full of CG guys and a couple hundred million dollars and let them make whatever they wanted for 10 years. I think I'd rather watch Aliens again.

Xam; you may know a lot about films, but you sure don't know fluff crap when you see it.

He's talking about 3D... not CGI. :)

:woot: :woot: In about a couple minutes, I am going to head out! I CAN'T WAIT to see this footage in 1 HOUR and 30 minutes!!! I also plan to go out after this viewing, so don't expect me to post my reactions any time soon! :woot: :woot:

Saw it. The 15 mins i mean. And im pretty much impressed. Amazingly impressed id say. Though 3d wise its nothing new, as it still suffers from lack of frames per second in action scenes in every other visual asspect it was amazing. Cgi is prety much photorealistic. Atleast in the forest scene, hadnt i knew that it was all cgi, id have said that Weaver was just wearing damn good fx makeup. Not only that, but everything looks like its physically there. Animation, skin detail, its movement over bones, emotions. Its all there. The little doubts about quality i had after viewing trailer has vanished now. Its ungodly. If anyone tries to compare this to anything zemekis has made... GET YOUR EYES FIXED (yes im looking at you Cthulhu lover :p ). I wont be throwing anything out there now before december has come, but i have a feeling this has completely different destiny ahead.

Anyway, back to where i was - caharacter design, is the only thing that im still a bit, well, not fond of. In no way its bad, but definitely unanticipated. But also quite original. And also when i came to think about that, it made much more sense considering Camerons love of underwater world. But all in all i see no problem with that.

The only thing im not still quite sold on is story, as I couldn't wrap my head around what direction is it going. Its like Dances with the Wolves in future meet... dunno, smth. But one thing sure its not quite the sci fi we knew... there hasnt been anything like this before. And i guess, thats what Cameron is going for. Lets just hope he doesnt fall flat on his face. Though thats possible with film of this scale and grand even for the man him self, its hopefully unlikely. All in all my interest has grown exponentially and its day 1 movie.

Btw - i somehow have a feeling that some of the ppl to vocally dislike this movie will be the same that had problems with dr. Manhattans dangling dick in Watchmen. Dont ask me why.

    • Samsung Galaxy XR arrives in the UK with new AI and enterprise features by Fiza Ali Samsung is bringing its Galaxy XR headset to the UK several months after the device made its debut as the first headset built on Google's Android XR platform. The headset was first teased in late 2024 alongside Google's introduction of Android XR before making its commercial debut in 2025. Developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, Galaxy XR combines mixed reality experiences with Gemini-powered AI features, allowing users to interact with digital content using voice, gestures, and visual inputs. While the hardware itself remains largely unchanged from the version Samsung unveiled last year, the company is using the UK launch to spotlight several software enhancements that have arrived through recent updates. Among the most notable additions is deeper integration with Google's ecosystem. Galaxy XR users can explore destinations through Google Maps' Immersive View, receiving AI-powered recommendations and contextual information from Gemini while navigating virtual environments. Furthermore, entertainment experiences have also expanded; users can watch 180-degree and 360-degree videos on YouTube, browse spatial content converted into 3D, and ask Gemini questions about on-screen content without interrupting playback. Samsung is also highlighting mixed-reality features such as Circle to Search, which allows users to identify real-world objects through hand gestures while using the headset's video pass-through mode. Another feature automatically converts photos and videos into spatial 3D experiences. Moreover, the headset now also supports Android Enterprise, allowing organisations to manage deployments using existing Android management tools. Annika Bizon, Vice President, Product and Marketing, Mobile Experience, Samsung UK & Ireland, talked about the device, stating: The headset is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform and features dual 4K Micro-OLED displays. The tech giant says that users can expect up to 2.5 hours of battery life. Samsung also confirmed that Galaxy XR will continue receiving software and security updates as the company works alongside Google and Qualcomm to expand the Android XR ecosystem. Galaxy XR is now available for pre-order and will go on sale on 8 July. Customers interested in trying the headset before launch can visit Samsung KX in London and selected Samsung Experience Stores from 17 June. Finally, the company will also host a livestream on 19 June showcasing the headset's capabilities and answering questions from prospective customers.
