Kevin Reilly, Fox Entertainment President, said that the upcoming season of ?24? might be its last. Kudos to iFmagazine.com for breaking this story.

The upcoming season of ?24? is the last covered by the show's current contract, and although Kiefer Sutherland remains enthusiastic, Reilly is unsure of the show's fate. However, he says there is still a chance of the show continuing past this season or the making of a '24' movie.

?It?s our last contractual season of '24',? Reilly said, discussing the issue with iF's contributing writer Abbie Bernstein at the TV Critic's Association's summer press tour in Pasadena. ?There are a lot of moving parts, so we?re not sure what will happen after that.?

?We haven?t made any decision whether it?s back or not [after this upcoming season],? says Reilly. ?The producers are passionate, Kiefer is passionate and we don?t have any of them looking to jump ship. It?s a show we?re really proud of. It?s going to come down to a business decision. It?s not an inexpensive show on the network books and we also want to finish strong. This is not a show we want to prop up. It will be a whole creative and business discussion and something we?ll have to deal with over the next few months.?

While there has been some slippage in '24's' ratings, the show is coming off one of its strongest seasons yet, creatively. Furthermore, according to Forbes, of all the shows on TV in primetime, only "American Idol"--also on Fox--gets higher ad rates for its commercials than does "24.".

Howerer, there is no doubt '24' is expensive, and the networks are facing a poor ad market.

I thought a while back they said they were aiming for 10 seasons.

Maybe someone can answer my question from the season 7 thread! :p

A question, about the 25th ammedment, why were both John Keeler and Wayne Palmer not restored as President at the start of Season 5 and 7 respectively? I dunno much about US politics, but if the President gets better, doesn't he get his job back?

Katee Sackhoff won't be alone, as it turns out.

Another Battlestar Galactica star is set to join the eighth season of 24, but unlike Katee--who joins the show as a systems analyst for the revived CTU--this one appears on the other side of the fence. Callum Keith Rennie, who played Cylon infiltrator Leoben Conoy, will play Russian syndicate mobster Vladimir Laitanan.

"We love this actor," executive producer Brannon Braga told TV Guide Magazine, adding that the character is expected to debut in the sixth or seventh episode of season 8, which premieres in January next year.

It's another villainous role for Rennie, after being one of the murderers in CBS' Harper's Island. The one-time Californication cast member is set to join 24 season 8's other confirmed villain, German actor Jurgen Prochnow, who joins as Bazhaev, a member of an Eastern European syndicate.

In other words, this season is all about syndicates, huh?

If the coming season ends up being 24?s last, don?t count on Kiefer Sutherland?s Jack reconnecting with former love Audrey (Kim Raver), who lapsed into a catatonic state at the end of season 6. Exec producer Evan Katz tells me that a series-ending story has been hatched should 24 clock out for good next May?and it doesn?t involve an Audrey-Jack reunion.

?Some of the things we?re doing this season preclude [her returning],? he says. ?So I think not. She was in bad shape the last time we saw her.?

Katz says a number of ?contingencies are in place? that could either tie up the series or keep it going. (Reilly had suggested that the show?s hefty budget could make another season cost-prohibitive. Another hurdle: Sutherland?s contract expires in May.) ?We have a scenario that would work well [if it's the end],? he says. ?But we also have a bunch of scenarios where the show could go on in different ways? We?re remaining flexible.?

What happens if a decision isn?t made by the time the final episode is shot in February? ?That?s a great question,? says Katz. ?Hopefully it?ll be clear before then.?

What say you, 24 fans? Bummed that time appears up for Jack and Audrey? Or are you too invested in EWRenee to care? Sound off below!

From Julian Sark on Alias to Adam Monroe on Heroes, David Anders just can't keep away from our favorite TV shows.

Reps for Anders confirm to us that David is recurring on season 8 of 24, joining the likes of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Battlestar Galactica's Katee Sackhoff. 24 is really beefing up their cast this year, raising alarm in fans that it will truly be the final season.

So what's David doing this season while Jack Bauer is hunting terrorists in New York, and how long will he be sticking around?

"He will be in a handful of episodes," says David's rep.

The rep was coy to say what his part would be, but when asked if David's new 24 character would go the way of Adam Monroe on Heroes, he laughed and said "You never know."

End of first promo is sweet - Jack in new CTU and Chloe walking right behind him w/ lyrics "We gonna run this town tonight

"Cute stuff between Jack and Kim's daughter Teri. She says "Jack?" and he smiles "you're supposed to call me grandpa!"

Promo 1 text: "He left it all to start a new life. But old habits die hard. This season: when a global crisis hits home, Jack. hits. back."

Promo 2 text: "All he wants is his family. All he needs is to survive one more day."

Jack Bauer stuff: he jumps through a freakin' glass window while screaming "Let's go!"

Jack appears to smack a terrorist in the head w/ a red fire axe causing the guy to fall backwards over the top railing.

Bauer tackles Cole Ortiz (Freddie Prinze Jr) while screaming "Get down!" - a rocket(!!) blows up the CTU(?) helicopter.

A bloody Jack Bauer sitting in a chair, he's getting punched in the face by a bald-headed guy... looks like it may be Domenick Lombardozzi

Dana Walsh (Katee Sackhoff) and CTU director Brian Hastings (Mykelti Williamson) watching big-screen monitor in shock as a building explodes

It appears as if the first two (daylight) episodes involve Jack transporting that Victor Aruz character (Benito Martinez) to CTU

Saw Stefan Kapicic's character firing a machine gun into an alley, and then he was one of the two dudes getting hit by Jack's fire axe.

Necar @zadegan's character (President Omar Hassan's wife) was yelling at someone "You put us all in danger!"

Two awesome Jack Bauer promo quotes: "You're lucky I'm retired" and "I hate this place."

Jack wants to move back to LA w/ Kim, smile & hug each other. Baby Teri "You don't look like a grandpa?" Jack laughs "Couldn't agree more!"

Two cops w/ guns drawn in alley, appears they're trying to bring Victor into custody but that's Jack's only lead. Seems to be a firefight.

It's night time and someone presses a detonator switch. A black car explodes and flips over onto its roof, skidding across the road.

Night time again - Chloe waiting on roof, a helicopter lands and Renee walks out of it looking badass. Seems her hairstyle is different.

Russian mobster (played by Callum Keith Rennie) is pointing a gun to Renee's head on a rooftop. Renee screams out "DO IT!" (oh hell no!)

Jack Bauer was in a convenience store screaming at the top of his lungs "What the hell have you done!?" and then "This is over!!"

Also, Jack was holding a sub-machine gun in his right hand while standing next to Victor before jumping through the glass window.

It?s official: 24?s upcoming eighth season is going to be craaaazy (the bat-you-know-what kind).

Gregory Itzin is returning to 24 as lunatic ex-prez Charlies Logan for a multi-episode arc. Logan will resurface towards the end of Day 8 when Cherry Jones? President Taylor reluctantly enlists her disgraced predecessor to assist with an escalating diplomatic crisis.

24 exec producer Howard Gordon says the opportunity to watch Jones and Itzin go head-to-head ?was simply too compelling to pass up.?

Logan was last seen in season 6 after being stabbed to near-death by his equally mental former wife Martha. At the time, 24?s then-executive producer Jon Cassar revealed that the initial script called for Logan to die. ?I did everything I could not to kill him,? he said. ?I wanted to give us the [option] to potentially bring him back.?

24 returns with its customary two-night, four-hour premiere on Jan. 17 and 18.
